Hi , my name is Sarah and I'm going to just demonstrate how to do the international stitch or the hidden tie .
This is what it looks like on a finished quilt .
As you can see the front and the back look the same and you don't have the strings sticking out .
Here's an another example .
This is a great stitch for baby quilts or even for large quilts that go on your bed .
If you don't want those , um , the yarn sticking out , you can use baby yarn or you can use crochet that threads .
So I'm going to show you how to do that on this sock monkey quilt first .
You're gonna need to start with your sandwich .
So you'll have your backing , your batting and your top with pins in them .
Next , you will need a long needle and for my thread , I think it's about 4 ft long .
Um , and then double would be 8 ft .
So it's in half .
You do not put a knot on the end and you want your end to be even you start with , I'm gonna do my first stitch right there in the corner .
So you come from outside , you can put your do this on a table or in quilting frames and you put your hand underneath to make sure that your thread is not going to be seen on the back .
So you come up , pull your thread through .
Now , don't pull it too fast because you want that to be just under the hole .
So for your first stitch , you might want to make sure that you're kind of holding that thread next , you're going to go down all the way through to the back .
So your needle will poke through and you'll feel it with your other hand and then you're going to come up through .
So that'll make the stitch on the visible on the back .
Then you pull this through .
This is where you wanna feel for your thread and hold on to it for this first stitch .
Next , you'll come back to the beginning of your stitch and then you're gonna go through your batting to your next stitch .
So you're not gonna wanna want to be able to feel the thread on the back side .
So you're gonna go down and through and you can feel your finger guiding the needle underneath the fabric .
You come up when you're ready for your next stitch .
So the , so this thread is actually in between your layers of fabric , it's in your body , you pull that tight and there you have a stitch and you're ready to do it again .
So the back there's our little stitch on the back .
So then you repeat it by coming down and up .
Now , remember you can feel the needle on the backside for this part because you went all the way through .
Now you're gonna come back to the beginning and then you're gonna go through the middle of your batting .
So you don't wanna fill the thread on the back side of your quilt .
So then you go up again and again , you have enough .
