Hey , everybody Neil here from the guitar tricks channel .
Got a new li lesson .
Little lesson and to tip of the week for you .
Lesson of the week is on the raking technique .
Show you that in a minute , tip of the week is uh if you're looking for some inspiration , you're kind of stuck , you want to try something new .
What do these four guitar players have in common ?
Eddie Van Halen , Stevie , Rayvon Jimi Hendrix and slash .
They all tuned a half step down to E flat .
That's right on their biggest albums .
They all tuned to E flat and there's something about it .
Not only does it make your strings a little looser , makes your guitar easier to play , but it gives a little more edge to the sound , especially of power chords .
Anyway , that's the tip of the week .
Uh Lesson of the week is on raking this sound right here .
It's a really good precursor to sweet picking .
And I know there's a lot of guys out there that have been asking me to do a sweet picking lesson and I'm not like a major sweet picking guy , but this is a really good way to get started because it's , it's half of the technique of sweet picking .
I'm gonna show you how to do it in lead style and also how to do it in rhythm style .
Basically , what you're doing is if you mute the strings and drag your pick across the strings , that's the essence of the raking style and usually end it with a note like this .
So you can use it for leads and rhythm .
I'm gonna give a example with a 12 bar blues in a .
So you can hear how it sounds in a rhythmic fashion .
Here we go .
Now , you might watch some videos online about the raking technique .
You'll see guys tell you that to mute with your index finger and then do it like that .
But I find that really uncomfortable .
So what I like to do instead is to do a palm muting to stop those other strings from ringing out .
If I was gonna do a raking technique and a lead style , I might do something like this or something like this .
So this is one little technique that you can add , you're playing , especially if you're starting out learning solos and you just , you just hear the basic notes ringing out .
You want to add some flavor , some texture , a little emotion .
This is a great way to do it .
Hopefully , this helps you out .
We're gonna kick it off .
We'll be back here in about seven days .
