Hello and welcome everyone to another edition of Fay Fitness .
Today is going to be a cooking basics 101 video where I show you how to use a rice cooker to make rice .
So if this sounds like something you'd be interested in learning , stay tuned and I'll show you how .
So the key to making rice is patience .
As we see here , this is my rice cooker .
We'll just open the lid up and inside , we have a nice little pot .
It is um stick resistant on the inside and there's little measuring cups for your water there .
So what I'm gonna do is take one cup of jasmine rice , pop it into this little guy .
And then the key to making good rice is to mix this with water because it will help get rid of all of the residues that may be on it from the uh manufacturing process .
So let's head on over to the sink and I'll show you what I mean .
So welcome to my sink .
I'm just going to add a little bit of water here and mix this around .
I don't know if you'll be able to tell but can you see how the water that's in here is actually a milky white color .
You want to continue to rinse your rice until the water is clear and no longer this white murky color .
So generally that's 3 to 4 times .
Um , it just kind of depends on your rice .
And , you know , for me , it's been a lot of the quality of the manufacturer .
Um , so I'm just gonna rinse this a few more times and then we will head back over to the rice cooker now that we have cleaned our rice and it's all nice and pretty .
As you can see the water , there is clear .
I'm just going to pop it in my rice cooker , add a cup and a half of water per one cup of rice .
Pull off the lid , make sure it's on there .
Nice and tight and then we will plug it in and turn it on .
So let me get this little guy plugged in here .
It would help if the outlet was the right way .
Yeah .
OK .
So we'll just power it up .
This has four different options here .
Let me zoom in so you can see what we're looking at .
This is going to be white rice .
Um If you're cooking brown rice , just push that button .
If you are steaming something , um say vegetables instead of rice , you would hit that .
And after your rice or veggies are done cooking , you can keep or hit the keep warm .
Button if you would like to do that .
So what I'm gonna do is just hit the white rice button as you can see , the little red light has come on and then this will think about itself for a minute and then do a countdown if you do not have a rice cooker and you would like to make rice on a stovetop .
Um just get a big enough pot to put your rice in your water in .
Follow the same steps as we did earlier .
Uh clean your rice , measure out how much you want to use , uh measure out your water , add it to the pot , bring it to a boil and as soon as it comes to a boil , reduce the heat to a simmer , pop a lid on it and then leave it for about 25 to 30 minutes .
Um The key with this is to not remove the lid when people are making this on the stovetop .
Um A lot of the times I'll see them take the lid off to check it that actually lets all the heat and moisture out and will dry out your rice .
So this is how to use a rice cooker and we will come back when it's done and I'll show you what it looks like .
So our rice cooker just beeped to let us know that it's done .
And as you can see it just at least my model um goes to auto warm .
So it's keeping things warm until I open it up .
But let's go ahead and pop the hatch and see what this puppy looks like .
Mm Right .
So there is all of our tasty rice , all nice and cooked and ready to go .
