What's up everyone and welcome to the club and welcome to sketch Saturday in today's video .
We're creating a sketch illustration of an elephant for today's lesson .
We're using a black four B pencil .
I use a side grip and sketch a small circle on the top of our page to define the size of the head .
So start right in the middle at the very top .
It's gonna lightly work our way around the left side and then come down towards the middle and we'll just work away up along the right side , back up towards the top .
And I can always go back and readjust the shape of our circle using these light lines .
Once we establish the size of the head , we're gonna add some guidelines .
Let's start right at the very top in the middle .
We get a line coming all the way down towards the bottom of our page just gonna bring that down to right about there .
We're also gonna add a guideline on the side of that circle going up to the top and then bringing that down .
Now we're gonna add a few more guidelines across the center , top and bottom of that circle .
So let's start on the left side .
So you go all the way across to extend this out towards the side , on the left and right side , do the same thing along the top and bottom .
Now , from here , we'll start blocking out the main features of the head , starting with the top edge of the trunk , starting right in the middle , just gonna curl this out and down towards the left .
Now , almost drawing a half circle just gonna bring this out towards the right now .
From here , we're gonna go all the way down towards the bottom up page and locate the bottom edge of the trunk , starting with a short line going across .
Let's go back up to the side , just gonna angle this down and in towards our bottom line and do the same thing on the right that's round out the bottom of the trunk on the left side .
I'm just gonna curve this down and up .
Let's go back to the side of the trunk .
We're gonna angle up and in towards that center line .
And then from here it's gonna cur this up and out towards the side of the circle .
Let's add that bulge on the side of the brow , starting back on the left , close this up and in and then from here it curves in and up towards the top of that circle .
Now , from here , we'll sketch a small oval on the side of the head .
Let's start on that center line .
I'm just gonna angle this down and in and pull that back out .
Now take that and flip it over on the right , just pulling that over in and then back up towards the top .
I'm gonna place the tusk on the side of the trunk starting from here , angle down and out on both sides , cur this down and in towards the side .
Let's round up the inside of the trunk , starting from the inside , cut this up and out and then from the inside cur the tusk going out and then down .
Let's pull that back up towards the outside .
And now we're gonna place the large ears along the side of the head .
We start from the top left angle this up and out with a straight line , go over to the right and do the same thing and it'll slope the ears coming down along the side angle lives down out of the straight line .
And then from the outside , we're gonna cur the ear coming down and then just bending that in towards the side of the tusk .
Once we establish the basic shape of elephant , we're gonna go in and lightly erase some of these guidelines .
Now that we have a clean drawing .
Let's add a second level of detail .
We start from the side of the brown , add a fold inside the ear starting on left , pull this up and then bend that out on both sides and then underneath the circle on the left side , we're gonna curb the head coming in and then down in behind the trunk , let's round out the top of the ears just taking out that sharp point .
And we'll add a foldable on the bottom of the air starting on left cur this down in , in and then from here , turn this back down and in , I'm also gonna bend the trunk coming down and up on the right side .
So let's start from the bottom , go this out towards the right then that up along the side , blend that out and we'll tuck that up and in towards the right side of the trunk .
And now I'm gonna add some wrinkles across the front edge of the trunk .
We're gonna start right in the middle , starting right here , start with a straight line going across .
Now we're gonna move down and just continue this all the way down towards the bottom of the trunk .
Now , as we get down towards the ball , I'm just gonna bend this down and up the slight curve .
Now , going back up to the top , we're gonna start to curl this up and then down , going up in the middle and that curve is gonna get a little bit higher as you go up to the top of the trunk .
And I'll go back with my eraser and clean up some of these lines .
And once we're happy with the general proportions of our drawing I'm gonna go with the tip of my pencil and start adding some detail .
Let's start with the bottom edge of the brow , starting over on the left just way around the side of the trunk .
401.5 --> 491.41
I'm just adding some light wrinkles around the eye .
Now , I'm just adding a rough edge along the outer perimeter of the ear and just removing that sharp point on the tip of the tusk .
And now that we trace out the contour of our drawing , I'm gonna go with the side edge of my pencil and start adding some shadows .
Let's start with the bottom edge of this fold , slightly working way in .
It's going a little bit darker as you come in towards the side of the head and then just fading that out .
I'm just starting off a little bit more rough and then adding some more detail a little bit later and just working my way around the side edge of the head with a dark shadow and again , just fading that out .
Again , I'm just starting with a dark shadow on the side of the head and then just lightly fading that out towards an even tone along the outside .
And this will help pull the head forward from the ears .
I'm just adding a light tone to the rest of the head .
I was working my way around the tusks .
775.82 --> 900.95
Now , the final step is just adding some more detail with the sharp tip of my pencil and I'm just refining the detail in these wrinkles and then just cleaning up my shadows .
I'm just adding some texture along the outside of the ear , these fine little wrinkles .
You can also do this with a side edge or pencil .
And as you get near the end of a drawing , I'm tighten up my shadows and add a little bit more detail and that's pretty much it .
There's a sketch illustration of an elephant .
