Hi , my name is Christopher .
I'm a cartoonist , author of many books on how to draw cartoons .
You know , cartoons can be cute and have a lot of personality , but they can also be funny in a weird way .
There's a lot of weird and funny character designs .
I don't mean creepy , weird , but just silly weird .
Let's try to do one of those kind of characters today .
First , we're gonna use my trusty blue line pencil just to get the uh position right .
We're gonna have the head tilted back .
So already it's kind of goofy .
Here's the neck , here's the head , the eyeline have a weird ear coming back here , here's a collar and sloped shoulders .
So we already know he's a goofy guy and we're gonna change all this or actually just draw over it and get everything finalized once we finish having the blue pencil stuff in shape .
So let's bring this nose down .
See if we like that position there .
Yeah , I think that works .
I give this guy a big over bite because that's one way to be really goofy and uh a big mouth .
I'm gonna give them really extra weird teeth that aren't going quite line up , kind of like an orthodontists dream job here and I will give him eyes that break barrier of the outline of the head .
We're gonna float an eyebrow out here .
A baseball cap .
Why not ?
All right .
So now we have this down .
Um I make this a little longer and let's use the black pencil , the trusty black pencil .
See if we can make this thing really work .
Well , I'm going to bring this eye out a little further this way , a little close to the ear and use some care to try to draw a good circle , two good circles the outside and the pupil .
Same thing here except it's gonna be cut off on one side by the bridge of the nose , float the pupils in the middle of the eyes because that gives a kind of silly stare .
And I'm gonna give him thick eyebrows , they go up and as I said , I'm gonna float an eyebrow off the face which is always a goofy look big overbite .
Another kind of weird funny look at a very high cheek for the smile .
I'm gonna give him an under bite because I gave him an overbite here .
If I brought the , the the lower part out here , what will be the sense of it ?
I wanna exaggerate something .
So it's the overbite .
And by doing , by making this an under bite , we exaggerate the overbite and I'll bring that weak chin in here flop that ear out like so bring this collar down , have that neck go into the color and then give him this funny hunched back .
I see your arm little shady under the collar .
Now we will give them teeth like I said , they do not line up and the easiest way to do that is draw one row at a time and just fit them in between round the teeth off , you know , surrounded teeth are funnier for a goofy .
Look .
Here we go .
Little shading under here , really floppy here for a goofy character and I'm gonna cut it off right here .
Kind of like a sharp angle here .
It's not really a baseball hat .
It's kind of like a funny , weird hat .
That's ok because he's a weird character .
Ok .
So there's some fun things you can see the whole motif is looking kind of odd and that's uh that's fun stuff in cartooning .
A lot of the new shows have that you don't just have to be cute .
You can be a little more inventive if you like nothing's ever wrong with cute .
But there you have some fun stuff .
I hope you enjoyed that .
