Right guys .
So we are here in my 1990 Nissan 240 S X and this thing is loud before I go into too much detail about the car .
I really want to talk to you guys about why I ended up getting a 240 S X .
You may have heard me talk about before how I've kind of always been interested or into drifting if you will .
Ever since I was a little kid , I always used to go out go karting with my dad , like we're talking like back in kindergarten .
I used to go drift around parking lots with that thing and it was so fun .
You're going to laugh at me but and Furious Tokyo Drift , one of my favorite movies .
But you might even recall in my last car check .
I was talking about how I got myself into trouble drifting .
That thing , automatic open diff quite a few times .
So I've always had a little bit of a little bit of drift in my blood if you will .
Basically the main thing that was holding me back from ever getting into drifting or any sort of drift type car if you will was the money , I kind of saved up enough money where owning a 240 was financially realistic .
So I decided to pull the trigger for a number of reasons that I'm going to talk to you guys right now .
One of the main reasons why I didn't get a 240 sooner was the fact that I don't really have time to work on one .
And I know that these cars , these cars love to be worked on .
They love to have stuff done to them and they love to break being a full time student and a full time youtuber , which doesn't sound like that much work .
But it is , I knew I wouldn't have enough time to work on the car .
So that kind of put me back because I didn't want to get something and have it sit broken in my garage , like all my friends that have 240 .
So I kind of talked to my friend Jimmy Jimmy Oaks and we came up with a solution .
Basically , it was going to kind of be like a shared type car .
I was going to get something that was totally like , just terrible , like car wise and we were just going to kind of share it and he was going to do like , work on it for me because I didn't have the time and I was just going to pay for all the parts another thing that was holding me back from getting a 240 was insurance on my BMW .
My mom actually pays for my insurance .
Like that was kind of the deal .
I was like , hey mom , if I save enough money to buy my dream car , like , will you help me out with insurance ?
And she was down to help me out with it .
So I never actually knew how much insurance cost .
And for some reason , I was under the impression that it was like three grand a year , which is like ridiculous , but it's not .
And I found that out after I was talking with a bunch of friends and this 240 only cost me like 500 bucks to insure for six months .
Not bad .
I also kind of fell in love with the notion of a beater car when I was on my Chicago trip because I drove my friend's E 46 325 .
I think it is , but it was just beat to crap .
It just was fun , like not caring about the car and just enjoying it for what it is and not worrying about every little pothole and stuff .
So I kind of wanted a 240 as a beater too .
So the next reason why I got a 240 you're seeing right now it's an asset to the youtube channel .
I mean , I've been able to make videos about this car already made one scare my mom and it went viral .
So that's sick .
Like , when I can't think of types of videos to film , I can just film a video about the 240 .
So it's kind of interesting how like , action sports people tend to , like , get into drifting .
And like , for me personally , what I find is like BMX , it's not so much that I'm bored with it , but I just don't get the same adrenaline rush that I used to get out of BMX .
But I kind of feel that same adrenaline rush when I'm driving cars and when I'm sliding sideways , you know , it's really when you're riding BMX and you get hurt and you can't ride for a while and if you're a person like me where it's your life , it can be pretty depressing .
So having kind of like another outlet where I can get .
That same adrenaline rush is kind of something that I've been looking for and I think I found it .
I thought it would be really cool to kind of like film the whole entire process of me learning how to drift .
Kind of like I did with BMX have like from the start where I have no idea about anything that I'm doing to a few years later when hopefully I'll know what I'm doing and making cool videos .
I don't know .
So the type of 240 that I originally wanted , I wanted an S 13 hatchback because I really like how they look and I want an S R motor in it just because I know they're really easy to work on and they're strong and reliable and I don't have to worry about freaking blowing an R B and dying when I'm trying to work on it .
But that's not really the car that I got , which I'm going to go into detail .
But first I want to just give you guys like a review on the car as a whole before I tell you every single little part .
I know there's a lot of you guys that don't really care .
So for those of you who don't really know a lot about S 13 S or 240 S , I'm just going to kind of let you know how the car feels and just so you can kind of get an idea of what I'm driving right now .
So my favorite thing about this car by far is that it appeals to all age groups as weird as that sounds .
I've gotten thumbs up from like old people , from young kids , from middle aged people .
I just feel like everybody respects this car because either they remember it when they were a kid or that it's just their dream car .
And for like their first car , I think it's just sick because this is one of the cleanest 240 s around .
So the previous owner did really good work with it and I'm going to go into detail about that .
But for now I just want to tell you about the car .
It's raw .
I love it .
As this guy pulls out in front of me .
I'm trying to make a video guy .
Right .
Thanks for waiting .
Yeah , it's raw .
Like you press the throttle and it's right there .
I mean , it's not like my BMW power wise but you feel the car , like , stop texting me .
Oh my gosh , you turn and the car turns , you push your foot on the pedal and the car goes .
It's awesome .
It's unsafe .
There's no airbags , there's no A b , there's no traction control .
Of course , it's like cars before they got tampered with , with electronics .
I really like it .
I step on the pedal .
There's no lag , no delay .
It just feels awesome .
It's really , really , really light .
I think it's like £1000 lighter than my BMW .
It probably has about 100 horsepower less .
I think this car is probably somewhere around 250 .
Just judging off what other people have .
I don't know .
I need to take it in and get a better tune and maybe I'll get a dino too .
But for now it's plenty of power for how lightweight this car is .
The wheels will spin a little bit in 1st and 2nd .
So it's all you really need in 240 .
I'll do a little pull for you guys right here and that sounds great .
That's another thing that's just awesome about this car .
It's loud , it's obnoxious .
It makes a lot of popping and growling .
This is the car that I never had as a teenager that I always wanted .
I just always wanted to be that obnoxious person going up and down your road .
It slides .
Well , I mean , that's what everyone uses these cars for .
So I scrape everywhere .
This car is obnoxiously lip low .
The front bumper is literally like a half an inch off the road .
So not even , it's less than that .
So if there's a crown on the road , it's , but you know what ?
I love it , I enjoy it .
I don't care .
I just smile .
This is my car that I don't care about .
So it's just a blast just to not care .
And you know , I'm bashing through potholes .
People are looking at me like , oh my God , I'm just looking at them laughing .
They're like , it's just a good time .
There's no ac so it can get a bit hot in here .
It gives you a reason to turn the windows down and really listen to the growl .
That s r I really don't know how to describe the sound of this car because it doesn't sound like any other four cylinder .
It kind of reminds me of a Subaru like the way that it has that growl from the unequal length headers .
But it's a little more fine tuned .
It just sounds really cool when you get up to the high R P MS , it just really growls .
I really like it .
We're going to be taking this really cool road .
There's lots of hills , so hopefully I'll be able to get out and open throttle a little bit .
The cool thing about this car is it's a really great car to learn how to work on cars with just because the bay is so open , especially because of the fact that it has an S R compared to my BMW where there's just layers and layers of plastic .
This thing is just really , really easy parts for it are cheap .
It's just really , really cool .
I like that about it .
I really wanted to learn more about like working on cars and doing stuff like that , but it's kind of hard when you have a newer BMW because like , yeah , you can learn and do stuff , but a lot of it's electronic , lot of , it's just a pain where you're better off just taking it to someone else .
So unfortunately , this car is so low that I can't even get it in my own driveway .
So whenever I want to work on it , I have to bring it to Jimmy's house , which is definitely inconvenient .
It's nice having Jimmy there because Jimmy knows a lot about just Nissans in general .
So he really helps out in that aspect .
So now that you know a little bit about the car .
I want to kind of tell you guys a story about how I ended up getting it .
So Jimmy was flying down to Florida to come back up with me on a road trip and we were going to film a video and stuff and he knew that I was kind of looking for an S 13 because we've been talking about it and we kind of figured out that it would be really , really smart if I were to get a 240 in Florida versus coming back up to Connecticut and getting a rust bucket .
So , while Jimmy was down , we started looking last minute .
Well , actually we didn't have a time limit , but we wanted to get out of Florida because it was hot and miserable .
So we were just on Craigslist every single hour .
We were on forums just trying to find a solid car and it's not as easy as you think I did want something that already has an sr in it just to save time and money and the hassle of swapping the motor and all that stuff .
I needed something reliable to bring back home from Florida because Jimmy was going to be driving it across country preferred having a limited slip diff or an open diff over a welded diff just for practicality , driving home , pretty much every car out there was crap .
Everything was half ass , half put together .
There were a few bone stock ones but they were asking like ridiculous amounts just because they knew that they had a gem .
So this car that I'm driving right now had been on Craigslist the whole time I was Florida .
This car had been listed for a very , very long time .
Why hadn't it sold ?
Well , the guy who was selling this car was asking a pretty ridiculous price for it , but for the car , I don't think it was realistic .
He was asking $7300 .
That's quite a bit for an S 13 hatch .
But considering how well put together this car is , if you compare it to the other ones out there , I do believe that it was worth the price .
That's not what I ended up paying for it .
This car was immaculate .
I looked down on Craigslist .
One of the things that jumped out to me was the dude linked his build , which I'll include a link in the description .
So kind of not crazy about buying someone else's project car .
I know you guys are kind of iffy about that .
Like is it bought not built ?
But in the world of 240 s , pretty much everything is going to have some stuff done to it and this car had the right things done to it .
The sr motor clean runs strong , pretty much everything under this car is brand new .
I'm going to go into more detail about what's actually done in this car in a few minutes .
But this car was built .
Right .
I love the fact that I could go on his build threat and see every single little thing that he did and how he did it really convenient when you're buying someone else's project , you really want to know what's going on .
Otherwise it's such a hassle trying to piece together other people's mistakes and stuff that other people hacked together And we can see that this car was done right , rather than just ignore the previous owner and all the blood sweat and tears that he put in this car .
I really want to talk about it and that's kind of going to be part of this video .
I kind of want to just set the slate clean for the stuff that we do on the car because this car was baby .
Like Kevin , the guy who owned it before he barely drove it , it sat in his garage , he did something new to it every night .
He made sure this thing was dialed .
This car is well known , which I wasn't too crazy about .
I might end up changing the color on it just because I don't like the fact that it's super well known for being someone else's car .
But by the time we're done with it , it won't look like his car anymore .
So I guess I won't have to worry about that .
So I met up , saw the car in person way cleaner than I thought it was .
I was kind of bummed because like I said , I wanted a beater and the paint on this car is awesome .
Like , we were hoping it was just crappy because this thing is like I wanted something that I wouldn't be afraid to drift into a pole .
This thing is way too clean to drift into a pole .
Kind of the biggest negative about this car is that it's too nice for what I wanted .
So I think I'm going to be a little bit more scared than I would be if I got a piece of crap , which is unfortunate , but to me not having a headache of buying someone else's crap and having a car that's well put together is worth it .
Basically , we haggled a little bit .
I ended up taking the car home for seven grand , two grand over what my budget was .
I wanted to spend five grand on one of these things .
But when you hear the parts that are in this car and everything that's done to it , there's probably about 15 grand worth of parts into the car which I know doesn't really add value much to the car , but a lot of the stuff I would do to the car .
So paying an extra two grand for having like a perfectly done car and being able to drive it all the way from Florida up to Connecticut in one piece and being able to go and drift it without doing anything is awesome .
Like you can't get a car like that .
So , one of the coolest things I think about this car , this is the last thing I'm going to say before I tell you all the parts on this car and bore you with a crazy long parts list .
I just wanted to give a shout out to the previous owner Kevin because he's been super awesome through the whole process .
I thought it was going to kind of be shitty because like when you buy someone else's car , you sell your car and you just don't want to contact the person who bought it or anything .
You just kind of , you just lose ties with the car .
This guy has been super helpful .
Like he'll text me once in a while and be like , oh I saw this picture of the car or I saw you made a video of this like , that's awesome .
I'm super glad that the car is getting driven , which I'm stoked about because I thought he was going to be bummed that I was drifting the car and I was kind of beating on it , but he knows that the car is getting love and I think that's all that he really wants .
So that's sick .
He's also been very helpful if we have questions about the car .
If we can't figure out what he used for a certain part under , he's always down to help and tell me what's going on or even give me suggestions on how to fix it .
That's really cool .
I'm just really stoked to have been able to work with someone like that .
So big shout out to Kevin .
I'm actually going to get my haircut right now .
My hair is really messed after I get out of the haircut .
I'm going to give you guys the parts list .
OK , guys .
So now that we're parked , I have a fresh new haircut and a Starbucks frappuccino , which I'm going to talk about in a minute .
We can talk about the parts list on this car safely because I'm not moving and there's a million parts to talk about with this car .
So I'm going to go really fast just for the sake of keeping your tension .
This is all stuff that the previous owner has done .
None of this is what I've done yet under the hood .
We got sr 20 blacktop .
It's out of S 13 .
That's a G D M motor .
If you guys don't know , it's pretty low miles .
He hasn't really driven it much into a swap .
We got Isis radiator electric fans .
No name .
Front mount .
The bay of the car is painted like a caramel brown and it's awesome because the theme of this car is actually to be a frappuccino .
The exterior is painted like a cream color to kind of get that frappuccino you feel .
And then the coffee bay , I really like it because I like Starbucks .
So maybe it was meant to be the boost controller in it right now is crap .
It's got a wiring specialties harness , which is really nice .
Although I already had to cut into it for my stupid rev limiter .
The wire tucking was done right inside the fenders .
It wasn't half assed stock mass airflow sensor .
It's got AJ D M E C U rebuilt stock T 25 Turbo by Turbo Bay Oil Catch Can Miata battery stage two clutch , which is really stiff .
But man is that thing reliable .
HKS Blow valve , which is probably the best sounding Bloss valve ever .
It matches this car so well and it's so enjoyable to sneeze at people when I'm driving by underneath the car .
We have no rust ISIS coil overs .
I'm hoping to get BC coils soon for it because the ISIS ones aren't so great .
One of the front ones is blown out .
I still have to swap it .
I haven't had time yet .
All new rods and arms under the car .
It's got solid Subra bushings .
Literally the underside of this car is brand new .
It's amazing to work on a one piece aluminum drive shaft V LSD and a buddy club exhaust , which is basically straight piped and it is loud and it sounds great , man .
Am I sweating ?
Oh my gosh , it's really hot in this car just sitting in a parking lot .
All right .
So going on to the exterior , the shell has about 200,000 miles on it .
About average .
Nothing crazy low miles .
It's got t tail lights which are the GDM tail lights .
They're really nice .
I like them .
It's a pig nose with an O E M lip and I really like the lip .
You don't see them a lot .
It's just really , really lip low and it drags on everything .
The car is repainted a cream with like this green pearl , but it's kind of hard to see unless it's in the right light .
I'm not too crazy about it , but it does really suit the car .
Well , like I said , I'm not too crazy about it because it's not , I didn't do it .
You know , that's kind of the weird thing about buying someone else's car when I got the car , it had Z 32 wheels on it .
Just some stock crappy wheels just because he had nice ones and he sold them .
The best thing about this car is that there's no rust .
That's amazing .
The interior was pretty much bone stock but like impressively bone stock .
Like it still had the seats , it's still the back seats , it's still the full dash , it was cracked .
So , yeah , the interior was pretty much bone stock when we got the car other than some Mickey Mouse gauges and a turbo timer .
So what we've done so far and by we , I normally referring to me and Jimmy .
Jimmy does a lot of the stuff with this car just because I don't have time .
But some of the things I do , I wish I had more time to work on this car .
But the realistic thing about it is that if I spend all my time working on this car , I won't be able to make videos .
And I think you guys will be way more bummed about that than if I have Jimmy help me out with the car .
We fixed a lot of leaks on the car .
There are a lot of leaks from the engine bay into the cabin and the cabin was getting like kind of moldy because of the water coming through .
So we fixed those .
I don't know how to say this , but it picks up some 17 by nine Varone wheels .
I got a crazy deal on them from some lady that bought them for her caliber .
I got them for like $550 and they're like brand new with brand new tires .
So that's awesome .
They look great .
Jimmy told me to get them and I'm really happy I did because they look awesome on the car .
I put in a short hub with a quick release , a short shift kit .
A B R Reveler , which is awesome .
I bought an old Naty steering wheel and it really like feels nice and it fits the car from like an older , like eighties Japanese car .
I don't know , it's just really cool I relocated the gauges to where the vents were , but I don't know if I'm crazy about it because it's not as easy as the Mickey Mouse pods where you can just look at them while you're driving .
I put on one of my friend Draper's old roof spoilers .
Jimmy painted it black for me .
I kind of like it as a little bit of flair to the back .
I want to get a spoiler for it eventually , but I'll talk more about the stuff that I want to do to this car in a minute .
I wrapped the trim on the side of the car with black because it was really faded and it looks really nice .
Now , I threw in a new battery because the car was having trouble cranking over .
I got a new boost controller and I got a hard bar for my planned seats .
I really want to get nice , like genuine racing seats .
I want some bucket seats with harnesses just so I feel locked into this car right now .
I don't really feel that safe .
If I were to go drifting with it , I might end up getting like an arrow kit , like some new bumpers just because I don't like how low this front one is .
So if I do that , I might end up wrapping the whole car , I really want to do it like , like a metallic red color .
I just really wanted a red car for a long time .
And I think this car would look really good in red BC coil overs are in the plans .
I might end up getting eighteens or keep these as drift spares or something .
I want to get another set of wheels for this car .
Hydro E Brake is definitely on the list .
I want to get Z 32 brakes because these brakes are kind of for the amount of power the car has .
I want some bigger brakes definitely needs a better tune because the car is running kind of lean right now .
I just haven't had the time to do that .
If this turbo ever goes , I'd probably swap it with a bigger turbo some better injectors just so I can get a little more power out of the S R .
I really want to get this car strong and ready to track it , although it may not happen this summer just because I'm traveling so much right now to me it's more important to travel and get to Canada and the UK and meet you guys and to drift around on a track a couple of times with a 240 .
I really want to keep full interior though .
Me and Jimmy just aren't crazy about the fact that people just rip their interiors apart to save a few pounds weight wise and then it just looks like trash .
I kind of like having a well put together car .
So with this , what I want to do is kind of keep it well balanced and looking somewhat stock , but having the performance of a track car if that makes any sense .
So I really enjoy just having a nice 240 the daily drive and I don't want to be looking around at freaking metal doors and crap just to save a few drift pounds .
So just to touch on something real quick , I know there's going to be comments saying like , oh bought not built and stuff like that .
And yeah , I did buy the car and stuff was already done , but it's a solid car and there's still a lot of stuff that I want to do to make it my own this whole video like the whole purpose behind it is rather than like trying to just ignore the fact that someone did a really good build to this car .
I wanted to acknowledge it and kind of say yes , I did buy this car and it was done really well , but we want to continue doing the car .
Well , it's not like I want to just drive around this car the way it is for the rest of my life and just parade around acting like I did everything to myself because I think that's where the whole animosity of like a bought not built car comes from .
We're planning on doing stuff to the car .
This isn't going to stay like this .
So now we have Jimmy here .
I'm here .
I just wanted to give a big shout out to Jimmy , even though he's like , it's not really a shout out because you're here .
But I wouldn't have this car if it wasn't for Jimmy , it probably wouldn't be running nearly as well as it is .
If it wasn't for Jimmy .
I , I feel pretty good .
I enjoy working on this car .
It's very fun .
I wish I had 13 .
Jimmy wanted me to get this so badly and I wanted it too .
So it kind of worked out that way .
Two things I forgot to mention that the car has , is it has a five lug swap which makes it really easy to find wheels for this car .
Jimmy also made me put a head unit in the car for the drive home too .
He was so close to not buying one .
So I got , I got a cheap pet boys head unit in here .
So one thing that I've kind of known after I got this car is there's a lot of perils between drifting and street BMX and that it's really hard to find somewhere to go to drift probably 10 times harder than it is to find somewhere to go to ride your bike street .
And when you get kicked out of parking lots or like places that you're trying to drift , the penalties are a bit more .
You don't just get like a little slap on the wrist , they give you tickets .
I don't know what's going on with this car .
If I'm gonna take it down to Florida or if I'm gonna leave it up here , what ?
I honestly have no idea .
But in Florida , I do know that it'll be easier because there's a track , like 20 minutes away from where I live , that not even like 10 minutes away from where I live that is drifting like weekly and all the guys at BC go street drifting and they said that I could come with them .
So that'd be pretty cool because in Connecticut there's nowhere to go .
I'm kind of worried about having this car in Florida a little bit just because of theft .
Uh , where I live is like really big with car theft .
I'm kind of sketched out about it so some future mods might be some anti-theft devices , but we're not gonna tell you what they are in case you try to steal it just in case we might pull the motor when it's parked it , it's that easy .
So can't believe it's not butter .
I just kind of hope that I use the car enough because I'm having a hard enough time , like getting use out of two cars now and when I'm in school and like , really busy , that's kind of something that I'm a little , not so much worried about , but I like , want to use the car a lot .
You know what I mean ?
With all the mods that were done on this car before you bought it in mind .
I think you guys can kind of tell how dialed of a car .
This was that we got .
Thirteens are very simple cars .
No one could , they're all crap , they're all crap .
And this car was very well put together and I , I honestly think it was worth the money .
I'm very happy with my purchase .
Huge .
Shout out to Kevin for doing this awesome build .
There's a link in the description if you want to go see like his history of the car and hopefully my Z will be done soon so we could tandem .
That'd be cool .
We're , we're gonna try to do drifting videos , but thanks for watching .
I hope you guys enjoyed this .
I know it was a bit of a long video , but I really felt it was important to kind of give the whole timeline of this car and the history .
You could always fast forward .
It's bringing hot here , it's roll down windows for the sake of audio .
I got ok .
