Hey guys , what's up ?
It's Scott with everyday home repairs .
And I wanna go over a few different ways that you might fix an issue with your garage or keypad .
So one thing , uh and this might be a surprise to you .
These actually have a battery .
These are , these are not hardwired in .
The keypads are basically the garage like a garage door opener that's hanging on your visor .
The only different difference is you have to enter in the combo and then press enter , uh which would just be like the open button on your garage door opener on your visor .
So super simple .
This is a Chamberlain uh which this will be very similar to a lot of different uh miles like a um a craftsman and other brands that are are basically the same version .
So it's just a nine volt battery in the bottom here , which you can just remove uh pop that off and put in a new one before you do that .
Really , you can um just even one of the buttons and you'll see the back lighting come on .
Uh That would indicate you should have at least some battery power .
Now , there could be some instances where , uh , maybe the lighting is very dim and then your battery is really close to going out .
So , just swap in a new one and you , you'll be good to go .
Now after a new one , if you're still having issues , what might be happening is I've seen a lot of people , uh , enter their code and just make it like 1111 , this one is a four digit code uh or maybe two .
So maybe it's 4545 .
So over time , you are repeatedly pressing one or two buttons which can wear out those buttons after repeated use additionally to not use the keypad as much .
Don't forget when you close the garage door , all you have to do is press the enter button here , which we can do and that will , that will close your garage door .
So you don't have to use the the numbers .
You don't have to punch in your code and then press enter and just the enter button will close your garage door .
Then when you open it , obviously , you need to press in the code .
Uh and that's the whole point of the keypad .
So if you think possibly that your , your keys are worn out , all you gotta do is change .
Uh You just have to change the code , which I also have a video that I'll link to uh to easily change that it really takes you just a minute or two and then you can change it and just stay away from those numbers that you used last time .
And I would recommend for two reasons uh to do four different numbers .
One is security and then two , you'll be spreading out the use on those different keys .
So that's really it in terms of troubleshooting and those honestly might be your , your fix .
Now , if that is not the case and you're still having issues , do not call in a professional quite yet because this could cost you as much as like 100 and $50 to swap this out .
This keypad .
Again , it's not wired to anything .
So it really is just two screws , one screw in the bottom here .
Uh that you , that's right under the nine volt battery you can take out and then it's just really a slot here where the screw will , will push into and then hang on .
So you take this off and then in the description , I'm gonna put a link to one of these on Amazon , usually running you about 31 to $35 .
So save yourself $100 .
Buy one of these , the chamberlains are really good in being backwards compatible across literally decade uh decades of different garage stores .
So buy one of these leave that screw in there and then you'll be able to just come in and hook that in and then uh secure that new garage door opener .
And again , follow that link and it'll show you how to program it .
So that's it .
Hopefully this one helped you out .
