Coway Airmega 250 Air Purifier - First Look

The co air mega 2 50 is the latest air purifier from one of the leading brands in this space and a consistent top pick by New York Times Wire Cutter magazine .

So when the company offered not only to send to me their latest air purifier , but also sponsor a dedicated video on it .

I was intrigued and said , yes , air purifiers are a category that I've been getting more into during the pandemic because I've been spending more time at home and I want to improve the air that I breathe .

Plus some of the newer air purifiers have particle sensors integrated into them now , like the 250 which I think is just cool and makes them way easier to use .

So let's dive into the air mega 250 .

And what makes it an interesting air purifier ?

First , let's talk about .

Set up .

The set up process is pretty simple .

You just open up the portion of the unit that houses the air filters that make up the three stage filtration system , the washable pre filter and the max two filter which is comprised of an activated carbon filter and the green true HEPA filter .

The HEPA filter removes 99.9% of nano size particulate matter down to point oh one micrometers which is smaller than most viruses and bacteria .

You can take the packaging off of that filter and then put the filters back in which is easy because each filter is labeled with which side is front and which side is the back to take the guesswork out of it .

Once you plug in the Omega 2 50 it'll do a quick start and cycle through its colors on the indicator light .

When you turn the unit off again , it'll remember the mode that you had it set to which is pretty nice .

All right .

Now , let's talk about features .

The Omega 250 has a sleek design and a pretty nice light , warm gray color which should match a lot of different home Decor styles and it has quite an extensive feature set .

My two favorites so far are real time air quality monitoring and smart mode .

The Omega 250 has dual particle sensors built into one side of it that measure the current air quality and will turn the indicator light at the top of the unit , different colors for different levels of air quality , blue , for good air , moderate for green , yellow , for unhealthy and red , for really unhealthy air .

If you place this unit in your bedroom or somewhere else in your home , where the indicator light or the other lights on the unit are going to be annoying .

You can simply tap or double tap the light button to turn off all of the lights and the unit will continue you to function .

There's also a child box feature that you can enable by pressing and holding that button for three seconds .

My second favorite feature on this unit is smart mode and that's what I've been leaving my air mega 250 on .

For most of the time smart mode uses the air particle sensors to ramp up the fan speed of the purifier .

When the sensors detect that air quality has deteriorated like when you're cooking .

Also , the carbon activated filter is pretty good at reducing cooking smells within smart .

There are a few other modes , sleep mode , auto mode , eco mode and rapid mode sleep mode is activated automatically within smart mode .

And what it does is the unit will automatically reduce noise and fan speed when the room is dark and air quality is good for three minutes .

Eco mode is also automatically enabled with smart mode .

When the pure fire detects good air for more than 10 minutes , the fan will stop automatically to conserve energy and enter eco mode for 30 minutes until it starts up again .

And if everything's good in 10 minutes , it'll cycle through eco mode again at any point .

If the air particle sensors detect deteriorating air quality , the fan will automatically restart and vary the speed based on the particle sensor reading rapid mode helps clean the air rapidly and is kicked on automatically in smart mode .

Or you can enable it manually by pressing the rapid button on the panel .

If air quality is maintained at a good level for more than five minutes , rapid mode will automatically switch back to smart mode .

You also have the ability to manually adjust the fan speed as well .

And when it's on its lowest setting , I can't even hear it co did a good job with their fan design at the lowest setting , it's almost inaudible .

All right .

Now , let's talk about maintenance .

Now , all air purifiers at some point will need filter changes and thankfully coe makes this pretty easy .

The product features an easy release .

You can quickly in the front of the air filter to remove the pre filter for cleaning , which you can do with either a vacuum cleaner or you can use water and then hang it to dry .

The max two filter has a life of about 12 months .

So you only need to replace it once a year which isn't bad at all .

The Omega 250 has indicator lights that will turn on when you need to change one or both of the filters .

The rest of the unit , you can clean with a cloth like the air outlet at the top and you can use a cotton swab to easily clean the particle sensors as well .

All right .

So that set up features and maintenance .

Now , let's talk a little bit about who this air purifier is for and where you may want to put one in your home .

Now , I asked to send me a unit that would be good for large spaces .

I wanted to put this out in my living room or kitchen and in my apartment , the living room , dining room , kitchen and hallways are all connected together .

So I wanted to make sure that I was getting an air purifier that could handle about 800 square feet or so the air mega 2 50 is capable of purifying every square inch of air up to two times per hour in a 930 square foot room depending on the fan speed .

So it's great for the large area in my apartment and I think it would be great for large living areas , small businesses or if you have a studio apartment , it could probably clean all of the air .
