Turbocharged 2JZ Toyota Cressida - The drag strip superstar (but also his daily!)

I got this car in uh 2008 .

I bought it from my dad and um we started to fiddle with it .

I actually grew up in the car .

Hi , I'm Mary Boyson .

This is my 1990 Toyota Crea first .

When I bought the car , it was a normal stock .

22 R 2.4 G L E Cider .

We put a one J Z twin turbo set up in there were on the box and I drove it for another , I think it was eight years and it was running fine .

It was like a 300 horsepower daily driver .

The current conversion from that I started , the car took about 4.5 years .

We opted to swap it with a two J Z three liter .

It was a full bullet engine , pistons rods , fuel pump , oil pump .

The head is completely done .

It's got uh 2 80 degree KFOR cams in uh it's got a mechanical fuel pump in dual rail injection .

The size of the turbo is a bulk Warner S 4 80 .

So it's got a 80 millimeter exhaust wheel and an 80 millimeter indu or , or the , the , the compressor wheel .

Well , my favorite part of the car is it's an old piece car that can go lack a fast and it sounds like a , it sounds weaker .

And , um , for me it's very fast at this stage of time .

So I love it to bits the interior of the car .

Um , we kept the stock dashboard and we covered it with the Qara .

Uh , the seats are belt seats , full bucket seats .

It's got four point the roll cage .

I did myself .

It's a normal 38 ball tubing .

That's just to stiffen up the whole car with a full length suspension .

And for my own safety as well , the issues that we have is the drive train at the back side shafts .

Then the center portion , we made stronger side shafts , then the center portion couldn't handle the power , especially with the launches and the takeoffs .

And , um , so I opted for the nine inch diff .

We don't have an exact figure of the power because we don't put it on the diner .

We'd use the mot data logging .

And , um , we just up the tune with that , up the tune up the tune and see where it needs more fuel .

You add more fuel .

If we up the boost , obviously , we're gonna up the fuel as well .

So at this stage of time , we're still stuck on 1.6 bar .

I would like to take a two , say 2.5 or 2.6 bar .

I think there will be more life in the engine with that , with that boost , the fuel management system we're currently running is the tech M 1 50 .

We've got a nice display , the C 1 27 display that you can see what's happening with the whole thing .

It's got a switch panel that controls the whole car .

So the wipers , the flickers everything .

It's a full road worthy car at this stage of time because everything is working through the P D M .

The P D M is controlling everything like the lights , all the power that needs to go to the fuel pumps and et cetera .

It goes through there .

Uh , the M 1 50 has got a complete data logging .

So if you want to see the tune on it , you can see the tune .

If you wanna change the , the , the settings on the launch control , the anti la anything the tech is actually the full system to go for at this stage of time .

People always say tech is a very expensive system .

It tends to sound expensive , but it can do a lot .

It actually saves you money more than costing you money because it saves the engine in so many ways that , um , it detects a knock early .

It detects when it's loan .

It's got a closed loop system .

So you can't actually burn up the engine because you're not fully aware of the tune in the car or the tuner is Martin Roots and he's the supplier and the tuner of the Motte system .

Awesome .

Awesome , awesome guy .

Very clued up with the system .

And I think that's where the , the heart of the car is .

Actually the management , the paint on the car .

It's almost a similar color that it was , it was this greenish color that it came out .

We just , when we repainted the car , put a little bit more p in it just to give it a , a much more subtle shine and make it look nicer .

People always ask me what's the one headlight missing for ?

Well , that's the evil eye for the car and that's where the evil power comes from with a , with a cold air intake .

So that's the only way we can get the forced induction or the cold air into the engine and , um , get rid of all the inca heat to get fresh air inside the engine .

The wheels are 19 inch volt wheels and , um , we've got a set of volt wheels for the back as well with a toy or art a on and , um , for the racing purposes on the drag strip , we use the 10.5 by 15 inch Mickey Thompson's .

They give a little bit more traction , the brakes on the car at that stage of time .

I've got , it's a mixed match .

It's , it's built what you have and use what you've got .

It's a S 600 Mercedes front disc that I used , it's a 340 millimeter disc and it's got , uh , land cruiser Calipers in front , the four pot calipers at the back .

It's got normal .

Also Mercedes diss the 0202 body shape and , uh , also a ventilated disc with a four part caliper at the back because she's quite heavy .

Uh , we've been racing the car competitively now for , I think , 78 months we started last year .

Our first race was in October and we started off with 11 5 .

My best time now is a , a 10 2 with a 2 29 exit speed .

So I think we're getting there .

My dream goal for this car is just to get it in the minds and mine will be sufficient enough , but our dreams will never stop .

We always dream to go faster the next day .

So I think for me enough will be a nine second , nine second street .
