It's 2018 .
Minecraft is the main sponsor of the World Cup Under Armor is still releasing color ways of a soccer cleat with a zipper on it .
And people are outraged about the size and position of a Nike Roche on a pair of Mercurial that they're probably going to buy .
Anyways .
What a time to be alive .
What's going on guys , Josh , from soccer reviews for you dot com , bringing you the top five best new boots of 2018 .
Now , just to be clear , these are the top five newest boots , not necessarily the best out of everything out there .
There are plenty of boots that have been out for over a year , some even longer than that , that are still excellent options .
Ultimately , when it comes to picking out brand new boots , it really does depend on what type of fit and feel that you're looking for .
However , if you're after some of the newest products out there , these are the five that I think are the best as always , feel free to leave your own picks down below in the comment section .

Let's get right into it .
Pick number one are the brand new Mercurial , both the Mercurial Vapor 12 Elite and the Super Fly Six Elite 275 250 .
They're essentially the exact same shoe .
One is a low one is a mid take your pick on what your preference is .
But what I really like about these brand new Mercurial while they've launched a quite a bit of controversy .
First , people didn't really like the look of the small Nikes on the front then they can about the split .
So a couple of pros slipped in a couple games automatically .
People assume the traction was worse .
It is not the stud pattern is the same .
And despite looking a lot different , the overall construction of the soul plate is more or less identical to what we had from the previous generation in regards to how it feels as well as performs .
If anything , this is actually slightly more solid than what we got from the solid outside Soul plate on the Vapor 11 and Super Fly five .
However , what I really like about these brand new materials is this new 300 60 degree flying knit upper , which honestly feels like an evolution of what we got from the limited edition Flying It Ultra that came out in a couple of different colors .
Those were extremely well received .
I thought they were excellent .
These are that much better out of any material that I've ever worn , either a vapor or a super fly .
These are by far the most comfortable and they feel the most natural on your feet as well .
But at the same time because it is a flying material which historically for me , with Mercurial , I've always had a little bit of a padded sensation .
These are as thin as any materials that we've ever had and the touch on the ball is great .
The comfort is awesome .
They feel extremely natural , not to mention they do everything that top end Mercurial are supposed to do .
They're lightweight , they're responsive , the traction is aggressive .
I really like what Nike has done with these new Mercs pick .
Number two is the Adidas Predator 18.1 , which is the least and cheaper variation of the two top end models available in the new predator lineup .
Now , somewhat similarly to the Mercurial , these launch with quite a bit of controversy , not much based on the way that they look , but more so based on the fact that this isn't really a predator in regards to what we've come to expect from the Adidas Predator series .
It's the return of the predator name , but the shoe itself more so is an evolution of what Adidas started doing with the A 16 generation .
And then of course , continue with the A 17 , this very much could have been called an Ace 18.1 and not a predator .
But with that said , I still think that it's a very , very good shoe .
The primate upper is as soft as we've ever seen from any this product ever .
It's got this interesting look to it with the texture , not really a big impact on performance , but I do think it feels really good and offers a nice touch on the ball .
It's thin with that slight bit of padding to it .
The lacing system over the lace version is very much a preference thing .
But I think in terms of getting the quality fit better lockdown as well as just better performance out of the shoe from a responsive standpoint .
I think the lace variation is the way to go , not to mention , it's also a heck of a lot cheaper at 2 25 for the 18.1 versus 300 or the 18 plus .
And I just think it's a really good overall shoe .
Does it relate to the older predators that we've had in the past ?
Absolutely not .
But if you want a knitted boot on offer from the Adidas brand , I think that this is by far your best option .
And by far the best knitted boot that we've ever seen come out of Adidas pick number three is the under armor , Magnetic Pro and under armor is one of those brands that I have praised on this channel and I have trashed them as well .
And I think their main issue in terms of building a reputation in the soccer cleat world is that they never have two good products .
At the same time , they'll have something really good like the Magnetic Pro .
And then on the other side , they have the spotlight 2.0 , which is the zipper boot that I don't think anybody looks at and says that is the boot that I want to buy over everything else out there .
So because of that shoe kind of being almost a bit of a joke , it kind of hurts the reputation of the brand as a whole .
However , the Magnet pro I think is absolutely fantastic .
If you're looking for the ultimate in barefoot feel , I know a lot of people automatically think Mercurial , I think that myself and historically , that's been the go to line if you want something super thin .
But honestly , I don't think we've ever seen anything as thin as the Magnetic Pro with its clutch fit form true hybrid upper .
So it's a replacement for the clutch fit line .
Despite having a different name , you can still see it has this clutch fit pattern here , which is basically a reinforcement webbing , but then it has this form true material on the surface which is extremely thin .
A lot of people asked in my review and I talked about this in the review that I did on the Magnetic Pro , why the toe kind of looks all funny ?
And you can see it still looks funny even after wearing it a couple of times .
And that is simply because the material is so thin that it can't really hold itself up .
However , when you have it on your feet , it instantly molds around your foot .
It has this little bit of an elasticated quality to it .
And it's reinforced by this clutch fit kind of support cage .
Basically , that actually makes you much more responsive than you would expect .
Given how thin the material is also for as thin as this material is , it has no plastic to it whatsoever .
It basically feels like the thinnest leather , you can possibly imagine the touch on the ball is like you're not wearing any shoes at all .
If I had one complaint , in regards to the upper itself , it does feel slightly slick on the ball depending on which ball that you're using .
But again , if you're looking for the ultimate in barefoot sensation , this is definitely your best option on the market right now .
They're thin than any mercurial that Nike has ever put out .
And again , if you're looking for something different , this is the different shoe that you should go for what was that pick ?
Number four is the Puma net fit 18.1 , arguably the most unique boot on the market right now because of its net fit system .
So essentially what's happening here and a lot of people seem to be confused by this .
You have a fully knitted upper here in the form of the Puma future 18.1 .
Obviously , the color is their evo knit material fully elasticated , but that knitted material runs throughout the entire upper as well .
It's just more structured .
There's an internal liner , there's a fuse layer on top .
And then on top of that , you're going to find their net fit system , which is basically like a webbing that runs throughout the entirety of the shoe on both the lateral and medial side where every single hole within that netting system , you can string the laces through creating your own custom lacing system .
Now , this might seem like a very gimmicky thing .
I totally understand that I was kind of half expecting that myself but upon actually trying these out and lacing them up in different ways .
This is legitimately the only boot on the market that you can make it fit tight , you can make fit looser , you can make more responsive , you can make less responsive , you can change the way that they legitimately feel on your feet simply by modifying the lacing system in pretty much any way that you'd like .
There are no limits to the way you lace these up .
It's really an experimentation thing when you get them figuring out what feels best for you and then kind of sticking to that once you have them properly adjusted , it's not something that you want to lace them this way .
If you want to run quicker or you want to lace them this way , if you want more power , obviously , that just seems unrealistic .
But like I said , when it comes to fit , you can legitimately make them fit better to your foot , given that you have them set up properly .
And that to me is a really cool concept and one that actually does work on this particular boot .
So if you have wide feet , you can make them fit wider .
If you have narrow feet , you can make them fit more narrow .
If you prefer to have a little bit more expansion in the lower part of the upper , you lace them up a little bit higher on both sides .
If you want them more responsive , you lace them lower and there's less stretch to the material .
It really is impressive concept that legitimately does work .
And I hope that Puma sticks with it because this is something that I definitely think they can build off of .
And I hope that people give this shoe a try because Puma they've been putting out really good products for years .
The evil Power line comes to mind , but it's one of those shoes as well , that never really caught on the Puma future seems to be doing pretty well at this point .
But if you're legitimately interested in trying something that isn't from Nike and Adidas , I think the Puma future 18.1 is a shoe that you should strongly consider .
And finally , number five , a pick that honestly I'm even surprised about is the Nike Mercurial Vapor 12 Pro and the Mercurial Superfly Six Pro , essentially the low and mid of the first tier takedown models in the new Mercurial lineup .
Now , historically , I've never really been a huge fan of takedown models and haven't really recommended them at the full retail price .
The Vapor Pro retailing at 120 the Super Fly Pro retailing at $150 obviously not cheap but certainly a lot less expensive what we're used to paying for top end shoes like the Mercurial Vapor 11 that retailed for $230 .
And this is basically that exact shoe now at a take down model price with some slight modifications , arguably improvements , which is crazy to think because you're basically getting the same quality of a top end vapor for 120 bucks or if you prefer to have a collar , which by the way is now actual flying it in the same color you would get on the $275 Super Fly Six Elite .
You're getting that 150 bucks here again , with what is essentially a vapor upper .
It's not officially called synthetic , but it might as well be because it feels exactly the same super thin .
I know a lot of people were really upset about the top end vapor 12 Elite being flying it rather than synthetic .
And that is kind of upsetting if you're a long time fan of that Mercurial vapor series , we're on the 12th model after all .
But luckily for you , Nike hasn't really gone away with it .
They're just calling the vapor 12 Pro now and they're charging you a lot less .
It even includes AC C something we've never seen on a takedown model from Nike and carrying over as a top end feature from the previous generation of Mercurial is the anatom shape soul plate , which again is something you also get on the Elite line .
So basically all you're missing out on is the flying and upper , but they're replacing it with something that is easily as good as what we've seen on previous top end materials .
And honestly , from a performance standpoint , while I do prefer the Elite Super Fly and vapor , I do you think that these are just as good and they take down models just as an honorable mention , a brand new release that kind of flew under the radar because of all the hype around other boots that released pretty much at the same time .
The Adidas Copa 18.1 full kangaroo leather upper and internal support cage now , which is actually a nice improvement over what we got from the original one piece construction a fit that I would say is very , very comfortable .
I love the construction and the heel as well .
I don't really care for this big fold over flap , but honestly , it's not that noticeable when you wearing them of spring frame construction , making them very , very lightweight for this style of shoe and an F G A G stud pattern .
So if you play on both firm natural grass as well as artificial grass , this is a really solid option because you can use it on both surfaces .
It's an alternative to what I think is probably a better shoe in the form of the Nike Tiempo legend seven now legend seven elite because of the new naming system .
But again , that F G A G capability of this particular shoe or if you just prefer Adidas over Nike makes this a very , very solid option that a lot of people don't really consider because it doesn't get the most marketing attention from Adidas .
