Easy DIY Curtains - How to Make a Rod Pocket Curtain

Rod , pocket curtains are the easiest style of curtain to make .

It's simply a panel of fabric with the tube at the top for the curtain rod .

So let's get started .

The materials you'll need are drapery fabric .

This is Waverly pom , pom play spa scissors or a rotary cutter and mat pins thread , a ruler or measuring tape , a fabric marker or pencil , a sewing gauge which is optional and an iron to determine the size to cut your fabric , take the dimensions you want your curtain panel to be and add four inches to the width and 12 inches to the height to account for the hems .

This curtain will be three ft wide and four ft tall when finished .

So I'm cutting the fabric 40 inches wide by 60 inches high .

First , I'm going to hem the two sides of the panel , fold the edge over one inch and press , then fold it over another inch and iron it again sew down the length of the panel about three quarters of an inch from the edge of the fabric back stitch at the beginning and end to secure the stitches repeat this for the other side of the panel , the top hem forms the rod pocket , which should be at least twice the diameter of the curtain rod .

For this curtain , I'm making a three inch double fold hem , fold the fabric over three inches in iron , then fold it over another three inches and press again .

So along the bottom crease of the hem , about a quarter inch from the edge to form the pocket , the top can be done at this point or you can choose to add a header which will make the panel extend a little past the top of the current rod .

I'm sewing one inch from the top of the panel to form a one inch header finally .

So the bottom hem to make the bottom of the curtain fall exactly where you want hang the curtain panel first to better judge how much to hem for this curtain .

I'm ironing another three inch double fold , same as the top .

He again sew down the width of the panel about a quarter inch from the crease .

And that's it for sewers of all levels .
