Hello and welcome to Science Beyond Channel .
Today , we're gonna do a very quick tutorial using only two ingredients that is water and hungry .
Jack , extra light and fluffy pancake MS .
Have you ever wanted to have your pancakes looked exactly like it is on the box where I'm gonna show you how to achieve this look .
Normally I tell you to cover your hair before getting started .
And as you can see I have on gloves , we're not gonna do that today because today I'm gonna wear gloves because these are clean fresh , uh , new gloves .
I'm gonna wear these because I've been doing a lot of yard workouts .
I , some things within the house as well and for my hair , I just took down some extensions .
So I'm allowing my hair to breed just a little bit before applying um to more extension .
So let's get started .
Ok ?
These are the things that you're gonna need .
The first thing you're gonna need is a bowl .
We're gonna , we're gonna start out , ok ?
On the back up here , they have measurements .
I'm using plain flour , baking powder , sugar , whole milk and I'm separating my eggs to whip up the white from my raising agent .
I do have some self raising flour in my back pocket in case the egg whites don't give me the rise .
I want just for clarity .
This the the the self raising flour is not actually in my back pocket .
It was That was a metaphor .
One of the other tips that I saw was to make sure that all of your ingredients are at room temperature .
So I'm just trying to relay this egg .
I was gonna I was gonna say , uh traditionally , it would be sat on to get the same effect .
Yes , but his his back pockets full of raising you've gone for technological assistance .
I have but hand whisk for the batter literally .
Just want the ingredients to come together just about .
And then I'll fold in my egg whites so they're all fluffy .
That's now gonna rest for about five minutes .
Now is the perfect time to turn on my pan .
And in the meantime , I'm gonna melt some butter in the microwave .
We're gonna discard those .
We're not gonna even go with their measurements in order to achieve this look .
We're not gonna use their measurements .
So what we're gonna do , we're gonna start out always with at least a cup of any dry season , any type of flour , anything you wanna use , you're gonna use it in small increments because you're just getting started .
Ok , I'm gonna use this major cup .
This is a half a cup .
I'm gonna do two cups of this pancake mix in here .
Open .
OK .
That's a half a cup .
I'm gonna place that in the bowl and fill up again .
And that's another hand .
I , I'm just gonna make a few so I can show you how it's gonna turn out .
Ok ?
And here I actually have a cup and a half of water .
We're not gonna use all this water .
What we're gonna do , we're gonna use the same bedroom cup .
Let's start off with a half that's not gonna be enough .
So we're gonna pour some more and make it equal parts to whatever the dry um mix is , which I use a cup of dry mix from the Hungry Jack complete .
Um extra light and fluffy pancake mix .
We're gonna use one cup of water .
I'm gonna take my spoon .
If you have any type of mixing device , you can do that in there .
But for those who don't have it , I want it to do it this simple way .
We're gonna mix that up together .
I mix it by hand .
So it becomes very smooth .
Now you may say that .
This is a little bit soupy .
That's how you want it .
Ok .
That's , that's real creamy and smooth .
I took , um , I , I actually changed from a spoon to a fork so I can make sure all the nuts and everything is out of it .
But as you can see , that is real soupy and that's how you want it .
Ok .
Next thing we're gonna do , we're gonna go over to the stove .
I'm gonna take this mix over to the stove .
Ok .
The kind of skillet that I'm gonna use to prepare these pancakes is gonna be a nonstick skillet .
It is very important .
At least one of your pans be nonstick within your home .
It makes it a little bit easier to cook .
But if you don't have a nonstick skillet , you will use like a um , tablespoon of margarine to coat the pan first before actually pouring your , your mix better .
So what I'm gonna do since I have a gas stove , I'm gonna turn it on to the number 3.5 between three and four .
I'm gonna let that sit there probably for about a good 45 seconds .
So I can go ahead and get high as you can see , I'm not gonna coat this pan with anything because it's a non stick .
And I want it to serve the purpose in order for my pancakes to appear as it does on the box .
Remember we only use one cup of the pancake mix and equal parts of that .
We use one cup of water and we mixed it very fine until all the lump was out of the pancake mix .
And we're gonna wait about 45 seconds for the skillet to heat up .
So know if your skillet is ready .
We said we're gonna sit it on the stove for about 45 seconds to know it's ready .
Get a spoon with some water and you're gonna pour it inside the skillet .
OK ?
It's beginning to bubble .
It's almost ready .
It's almost ready .
Once that dissolves , we're gonna go ahead and pour a little bit of our mixture inside of the skin .
This is what you can do if you feel uncomfortable pouring this directly from the bowl .
Complete extra light and fluffy pancake mix .
I hope you have enjoyed the time we've shared together and making this very simple tutorial pancakes from the hungry Jack .
Complete extra light and fluffy pancake mix .
Until next time be black .
Jane , How's your confidence , Baz ?
Oh , I'm all right .
I'm OK .
I'm gonna have I'm gonna I'm gonna do a stack of six .
Shall we Tell him about the flower on his face ?
Mine look more like Prio Mine look like crumpets .
I wouldn't worry about it .
I'm loving this .
Of course you are .
You're on the side .
2.5 minutes .
It's all riding on these boys .
What are you doing , Jay ?
You're doing a butter , butter and maple syrup mix .
Yes , and obviously a shot of whiskey .
I'm serving these .
How ?
I've served them at home with a bit of maple syrup on the side .
Jay , you've got 18 seconds .
Which ones are you going with ?
I don't know .
Last five seconds .
Four What He what he going for ?
221 .
Jay , which ones .
Are you submitting ?
Nice .
Risky , but I like it .
What would you say if we ran a competition where you and a friend could come down to our central London studio and watch us film an episode of salted food ?
Live ?
Plus , you'll get lunch cooked by Kush and get to eat it with a sorted crew .
Sound good ?
All you've got to do is cook just three meals from our side , kick app and send us the photos whilst everyone around you wonders how you became a chef overnight and cook along with us live in our home kitchens .
Every week , you can ask Ben all your chef questions and let's level up our cooking together .
I am very excited .
Shall we start with Jamie's ?
Yep , they are thicker than any American pancake I've ever seen and you can see not quite cooked in the middle .
But let's try them .
Let's taste them cakey .
I would say more of the cake part of pancake .
You've got an amazing rise on them like Amazing Rise , and I think that comes down to the the beating of the egg whites .
I think the the egg whites were over beaten so they began to lose their structure and were a bit too stiff .
So when you actually fold them through , you lose the air in the batter .
All that means is they eat quite dry .
When you beat your egg whites , you over beat them and they began to almost separate .
And you lose that floppy , glossy airiness .
And then because they're so thick , you don't get to cook through to the middle without over cooking the outside and drying it out .
So it's quite a chew and quite an uncomfortable eat .
But But , hey , they're all very uniform , right ?
Let's move on site alone .
These look more like American pancakes , although they've got the mottle ness of like a crap .
But I quite like the fact that they are not wholly irregular , But more I would say pancakey again if anyone gave you either stack .
I'm sure with lots of syrup and yoghurt or cream , you'd love them .
We are picking up the tiny things here can definitely taste butter .
They're buttery .
They're much softer .
Mm .
Um , they're not chewy .
They're quite wet .
That's the only thing you got the rise in the pan , didn't you ?
The flavour is great .
again .
They're very even in colour .
I like the Mott Effect .
They're less regular than Jamie's , but I think they're more accustomed to an American pancake .
Next time I'm not convinced by the buttermilk , I'd be tend to leave it out and put in a egg .
Whites ?
Yeah , I'd say flavour wise .
They taste great .
They taste like a pancake .
Texture wise .
Yeah , they're a bit They're not soggy .
They just taste a bit greasy .
Yeah , I think that is how I describe it .
Do you wanna come in and try them ?
Yeah .
Interesting possible pan choice from you .
If you were doing three of them , they were .
You were kind of putting me into the pan and they were almost moving away because the pan wasn't flat bottomed .
They were easing away from you , not giving you a huge amount of chance to get even cooking .
Whereas Jay , you're using a much flatter , more even surface of a pan , which means you get more consistency .
It's very cakey , isn't it ?
It's a delicious cake made in a pan .
This is very delicious .
Butter maple whiskey .
Very , very delicious .
Very naughty for me .
Once you understand .
Really ?
What ?
Each element of the pancake is doing .
You can then start to play , but I didn't realise it was a reaction to the reaction between the butter milk and the bicu that gave the bubbles before doing this .
And that's what made me want to try this one and give it a go .
So what's the difference between B carb and baking powder , and how are they activated ?
I can A soda is just the base or the alkali , so therefore needs liquid to start doing anything .
But it also needs an acid in this case , buttermilk .
It could also happen with lemon juice .
Or or do you like Baking powder has both acid and alkali in dry form , so all it needs is liquid and they already activate themselves .
So if you're using self raising flour that usually has baking powder in it , pancakes are really , really simple to make .
Making them perfectly isn't easy , and I think to have the opportunity to spend a day going right here is my simple pancake recipe .
I'm going to now change this element for this element .
I think is a really fun thing to do , and you could do that each time you make them , whether that's once a week or once a month or whatever .
But at the end of the day , it's really hard to make a bad pancake .
And once you cover it in delicious maple syrup , it really doesn't matter , does it ?
Yep , we've probably all got , like , a favourite pancake recipe .
We'll link to a few of ours down below , tried and tested .
We'd also love to hear What is your go to ?
What's your trusted recipe ?
