How to Make a Rainstick _ Craft for Kids

video content Image generated by Wilowrid

Hello , I'm Danielle , the author and illustrator of Miss Mischief .

A pancake surprise .

And on the Miss Mischief Channel , I teach you about our amazing world through art , science and craft projects .

Today we're gonna make a rain stick .

Doesn't that sound like a nice , gentle rain on a spring day .

Here's what you need .

Red construction paper , two paper sacks , rice scissors , a pencil , two rubber bands , a measuring cup , drying compass , a paper towel , a wooden spoon and aluminum foil .

Let's get started .

Take the paper sack and cut off one side , wrap the paper sack around the paper towel , roll like this and then cut it off .

Glue it down the glue on there .

Now , I will wrap aluminum foil around the wooden spoon and then we will stick it inside the rain stick .

And as the rice falls down through the aluminum foil , it will make a really cool sound .

Take the aluminum foil and fold it .

You want to make it look like a snake .

Here we go .

Now wrap it around the spoon just like that .

Now , pull it off , make sure you keep it in that nice spiral shape .

This will be really cool when the rice falls through it .

All right .

Now , repeat that process with a new sheet of aluminum foil .

This piece will be a little bit smaller , set those aside for later .

OK .

Pick up the paper sack and cut off the other side .

Yeah .

Take the drawing compass and put it to 3.5 inches .

Now , draw two circles , cut them out .

Grab one of the circles and place it on the end of your rainstick and wrap it around like this and secure it with the rubber band just like that .

Now , remember that aluminum foil ?

Let's put it inside .

Let's measure out one third cup of rice for our reins stick , pour the rice into the rain stick and try not to spill it all over the table like I just did take the second circle and attach it to the other end of the rain stick and secure it with a rubber band just like you did before .

Ok , let's make our rainstick look pretty .

Grab your scissors and cut slits until the end of your paper circles .

Yeah , you will do that again .

For the other side , let's decorate the rainstick with bands of red construction paper .

You'll cut off a piece about this size , then you'll wrap it around the river band which will hide it and make it look really pretty .

Glue it down .

You will do that again .

For the other side , for the last step , you'll just want to dab a little bit of glue underneath your circles just to make sure the rice doesn't fly out everywhere when you're playing with it , you can just do a few spots .

All right .

So now should we listen to our rainstick and see how , what it sounds like ?

Wow , that sounds so cool .

I think we did a good job .

Oh , that is so , so neat .

I had so much fun making this rain Stick with you if you had fun to like the video below , share with a friend and subscribe to my youtube channel and please check out my book Moose Mischief .

A pancake surprise .
