How to Make Mexican Paper Flowers

Those little Mexican paper flowers are called crate folding .

My name is Robert .

Today , I'm gonna teach you how to make those little paper flowers .

Uh , crate folded .

What we're gonna do is we're gonna start with a couple of square pieces of paper I have here .

Now , they're not all exactly square , but this is tissue paper and it doesn't really matter .

They're really hard to cut .

And I've got , I've got about six pieces here .

You can use 4 to 6 .

How many ever and just lay them one right on top of each other .

And what we're gonna do is we're just gonna take them and you're just going to fold them into little one inch increments first , one way , then the other way .

I mean , you don't have to be exact with it .

Exactly one inch .

If you want to break out your ruler , that's your prerogative and more power to you .

But I'm just gonna guess because here we go .

All right , I'm gonna take this little , uh , one inch strip .

Now , I'm gonna take my little green piece of pipe cleaner .

I'm just gonna fold it in half and I'm going to just slide it over like so kind of push it up just a little bit to give it that .

I'm just gonna twist my pipe cleaner just once .

There we go .

And from there , oh , wait a minute , I forgot one thing .

Go back to it .

We'll fold this over like , so now that it's folded over , what I'm gonna do is I'm just gonna take it .

I'm gonna round this edge off which will bring all of this kind of two , a similar look .

There we go .

Oops .

Not too round .

Let's try that again .

All right , close enough .

Let's get this out the way here .

Now we're gonna do is we're going to take this and we're just gonna open it up .

And from here , this comes to your artistic ability here .

If you're gonna take this flower and open it up and then you're gonna kind of just take and pull each layer out until it looks like a flower .

This will take quite some time or maybe not depending on how good you are at this .

But this is the basic concept and this is the basic concept of all crepe style flowers .

So instead of going out and buying your crate flower set , you can just make this for quite a bit less and that's pretty good .

It looks pretty close .
