Today , we're doing French press coffee and as usual with our coffee , all the details of what make this a much better process .
So with French press , it's really defined by the metal filter itself and the fact that we're actually immersing the coffee in water itself .
So this would be referred to as an immersion method .
So starting with great water filtered to the right temperature , then we have coffee that's pre measured and ground freshly .
So right now we do 2 g per ounce .
So this is a 30 ounce uh pot and then I'm doing 60 g of coffee .
So my first step is to just put the fresh ground coffee in there .
And I would like to saturate the coffee first .
So I'm just going to pour enough water in there to saturate all the grounds .
And with fresh coffee , I'm going to allow that to off gas .
So there's a certain amount of about 30 seconds that I'm going to time this to off gas .
But you actually see the whole process happening in the glass at the point that everything is saturated .
I'm just going to continue to fill it up and I don't want to over mix the coffee or create a lot of turbulence .
I only just want to saturate it all the way to the full level of the pot at this point .
If there's any clumps related left in there , I'm just gonna mix those in so that all the coffee is brewing at the same time .
And I'm going to let this sit for about three minutes and into about 3.5 minutes .
So the whole extraction will take about four minutes and I'm just inserting the filter not pressing until the appropriate amount of time .
So at this point , we're just brewing all the coffee is immersed in there and we're waiting for the right amount of time .
This is a coarse grind .
So basically , uh the brewing method is directly related to the grind .
So with an immersion method in a longer period of time , we have a coarser grind with a faster extraction .
We would have a finer grind .
This point .
What we have is three minutes , 3.5 minutes have passed and we're on , the coffee is brewed and we're only going to filter it .
So by filtering it , I just mean push the metal filter down to the bottom .
So we pressed it and now we have fresh brewed filtered coffee .
Here we go , press cut up .
