What's up ?

My name is Matt Stephana .

And today I'm gonna teach you guys Michael Jackson's moon walk .

Now , it's important to know two things before we get started .

One , Michael Jackson did not invent this move .

He just made it famous and he was really , really amazing at it .

Two .

It's not actually called the moon walk .

The moon takes you lying in a circle .

This isn't a straight line like Michael did it and it's called the backslide .

So today I'm gonna teach you guys the back slide .

I'm gonna turn sideways so you can see the foot work a little bit better .

We're gonna start up on our right toe and with our left foot flat , all we're gonna do is slide our left foot back and then we're gonna switch our feet .

So now I'm on my left toe , slide my right foot back , switch my feet , slide my left foot back , switch my feet .

You might be thinking to yourself .

Yeah , but it's not that easy because if it was , I'd already be able to do it .

So here's a few tips that will help your glide .

Look a little bit more like my foot slide .

First of all , when you're sliding back , you have to keep the foot that's sliding flat to the floor .

This is really important to sell the illusion .

If I just slide back on my toes , there's nothing that really tricks me into thinking that I'm gliding across the floor .

It looks like I'm just dragging my feet .

So you keep your feet flat when they slide flat flat .

The second thing is the switch .

Now , when Michael switches his feet , it's a very aggressive and a very quick switch , which gives him a lot of power to go across the floor .

And it also helps separate the glides .

So when he slides back , he switches and then starts the next glide rather than switching and pushing the two together .

So when you're practicing , you want to start here , you wanna slide , switch , slide switch , slide switch , slide , switch , slide switch .

Once you can do that , all you're gonna do is take the pause out in the beginning .

So it slide switch , slide switch , slide switch one right after the other .

Once you get it down , it's just about making the glides longer .

Keeping that switch clean and practice , practice , practice .
