That we up in .
Hi , welcome to Let's Stand Salsa .
My name is Marlon Silva .
And this is the first episode of Let's Stand salsa using the building block technique .
Today we wanna base the first episode in the first building block technique .
First of all , before go to the action , let me tell you something about salsa because it is a confusion about this rhythm where it came from .
Why so many styles on it .
Well , first of all , salsa is considered a style .
OK ?
No rhythm and new styles come out every year .
This rhythm of course has a strong Caribbean influence from Puerto Rico and Cuba , but the music was developed in New York City .
OK .
And it's a combination of all those classical Latin rhythms , mambo , all those classical Latin rhythms into the American jazz .
Salsa was born in night clubs as a nonstructural kind of dance and it's evolving every year and you can see structural dances , putting structural rules into the dance .
Our technique is based in non structural ways .
That means once you know how to feel the rhythm in this kind of music .
Once you know the right techniques , once you know how to spin with the right technique .
It'll be much easier for you .
Make any combination on any dance floor .
If you can walk Susie and I can make you dance .
Let's go to the first building block .
Hey , let's all stand in place and let's go side to side .
OK ?
One step when your knees bounce the first key .
When you dance , the first step is moving your weight .
OK ?
Side to side .
Even it could be upper body or hips just you have to move your way .
OK ?
This is not like that .
You have to leave your body in the middle to get balance .
This is the first mistake .
No .
In salsa , you have to move your body .
OK ?
That's it .
Relax .
OK ?
Bend your knees , bounce our job here to stay the rhythm out of you .
OK ?
Side to side , warm it up .
Remember you have to adjust your body conditions to the dance .
OK ?
Let it go .
Let it go .
Take to say let's put some shoulders , side , center side , stand warming , warming up .
Authentic Latin style is based in foot work .
OK ?
If you are not used to it , it's OK .
Don't think the food work so far .
Just let it go .
Even you can jump in the learning process .
We're just learning how to feel the rhythm in this music .
Keep Bo straight right now .
Boris straight .
Let it go .
OK ?
Don't count .
Just let it go side to side right now .
Keeping this in motion .
Let's just start stepping back .
Shortest step , that's OK .
Shortest step .
Let it go .
This step is known as a Cumbia salsa step .
Our gold dancers is doing this twist fancy movement here .
This is authentic Latin style here .
OK ?
If you don't feel comfortable , just keep it simple .
OK ?
Keep it simple .
You don't wanna hurt your joints , first of all , OK ?
Even when you start twisting on purpose , your mind will be in the twisting movement and you'll be dancing in that way and the rhythm will go in that way .
And that's not the purpose .
Just when you warm up , you start bending your joints little by little .
OK ?
Stepping shorter .
Let's a step longer .
OK ?
Step shorter .
Normally in fast salsas , we have to step shorter to be on beat .
And for certain combinations , you have to step shorter than your partner to make the combination working in both shorter , longer .
Work it out .
Just let everything pops out of you .
The rhythm pops OK ?
If you can walk , you can dance , stepping shorter .
Let's put some shoulders back , keeping shoulders down .
OK ?
OK .
Back , center , back , center .
Remember this is called the salsa , OK , back and forth .
Let's do the whole sequence again .
Straight .
Keeping this up good step it longer .
OK ?
If you feel comfortable , remember , start doing your footwork joints .
If you don't feel comfortable , keep it simple .
Stepping shorter .
Very good .
Let's put some shoulders back , center , back , center back , center , back , center .
Good job .
Let's keep adding spices to the sauce .
Remember salsa means sauce in Spanish .
Let's keep adding spices right now .
Let's go to your right two steps , OK ?
Putting feet together is fit together .
1212 , OK ?
Two steps , 12 steps fit together .
It's important to keep 2 ft together .
After you do the step in that way , you can rotate easier on the dance floor .
OK ?
Side to side .
OK .
Remember our goal is doing this fancy footwork .
OK ?
If you have like dance training , ballet training , you can add hips or any other fancy move .
Remember salsa is style , combination of so many different styles in one .
If you don't feel comfortable with those kind of styling points , you don't have to do it .
OK .
Remember at the bottom line , we dance to have fun , you adjust your body conditions to the dance .
OK ?
Keep it there .
Let's practice a little bit more , add more spices .
Let's go forward , side to side 1212 .
OK .
Let's go back .
Normally .
As soon as you get the beat , you start shaking your body as you feel the rhythm , it could be upper body like I do equal the hips or it could be footwork or just keep it simple .
OK , let's start stepping on your heels .
Answers , let's find out what's your best way on your heels ?
Let's go forth .
Let's go back in place right now .
Let's go on the ball of your foot , stepping on the ball of your foot .
If you step on the ball of your foot , you do more footwork .
If it's uncomfortable , just keep stepping on your heels .
Ok .
Let's go forth side to side .
Let's go back , work it out in place .
Once we define heel or toes , let's keep adding spices .
Basically , if you have high heels , step on your heels .
Ok .
Remember we must feel comfortable when we dance .
You never dance against your body .
OK ?
Everybody's body is different .
Let's keep adding spices .
Keeping two steps .
Let's start stepping shorter , shorter , shorter until you reach the center here .
Perfect .
If you step on place .
OK .
No .
Work it out .
Remember Trey Hills ?
OK .
This is the most important step in salsa .
Why ?
Because this is a step we use the most in our combinations .
OK ?
This is a step .
We have to improve stepping shorter .
Authentic Latin style dancers is doing these fancy movements here .
Don't worry about that .
If you're a beginner , keep it simple .
Work it out .
When you warm up , you start bending your joints .
They have a little heaps .

Whatever makes you more comfortable .

Let's add spices .
Let's go to the singers step which is size , center , size center , OK .
Size center side , center .
Why it is called a singer step .
Most of the choreography in bands , groups , orchestras are based in this step because singers have the mic here at the front .
They have to sing of course , and we have to make the choreography based in this kind of step here .
OK .
Imagine you are holding a mic up from here , move your upper body if it's comfortable for you hips , move your hips .
OK ?
Just relax everybody .
Kate stepping shorter , keeping the same principle .
Remember for fast tempo step shorter to be on beat and for certain combinations , you have to step shorter than your partner to make the combination a bit longer the footwork is ladies dancers , Ben in your joints .

Our goal is developing this footwork , lower body motion .
If it's hard for you , you have to compensate the lower motion with the upper body motion here , but it's in a straight line .
OK ?
This is your goal .
Just keep going , keep going , work it out , work it out with them , pops out of you right now .
Stepping shorter , short term .
Remember , this is the most important step .
This is a step .
We have to prove this one and so forth either way on your heels or on the ball of a fool .
OK .
Let's go back .
Don't worry about your partner's move right now .
Just working yourself right now .
OK .

If you have a lot of space on the dance floor , you can step longer if you want doing more style .
Just keep it simple , work it out .
Show to step some dancers , very few of them add the Charleston style .
