If you're looking for a really simple way to add floral accents to your cake or dessert , the rosette is hands down the easiest way to add that detail .
The rosette builds on the star technique .
It's so simple to do .
You just start by piping a star , move over to the side a little bit and then just make circle all the way around your star .
We'll be using medium consistency icing for this technique so quickly , I want to show you the different tips that you could use for this technique .
It's a 16 21 32 1 M and also a two D , the one M and the two D are going to make really big rosettes and you'll see that in a few minutes .
I'm going to be starting with a bag fitted with a one M tip and I'll be holding my bag straight up and down .
First , I'm gonna take you through the motions pretty slowly .
I'm gonna be stopping and starting a little bit so that you can see the detail of how to do this decoration .
We're going to start with a simple star and then you're gonna squeeze and raise the tip a little bit , then move slightly to the side .
It doesn't matter what side you move to right-handed decorators will usually move to the left and left handed to the right .
Now , we're going to pipe an arc towards the top and then we're going to pipe a semi circle until we connect with a starting point to get a nice clean finish .
Don't squeeze as hard towards the end , decrease pressure and pull away .
I'm gonna pipe a rosette a lot faster this time .
So it's side top and around .
Now I'm going to use a tip 21 to pipe a much smaller rosette .
It's the same motion for this .
It's side top and around and then decrease pressure and pull away .
So we just created rosettes with the one M and the 21 tip .
But I want to show you what a few other tips might create as well .
This is a 16 , this is it 21 in a 32 .
These make delicate little rosettes which would be perfect for cupcakes and cookies or little accents on cakes .
This is the two D and it has a pretty little furl to it .
And then this is the one M tip .
These are perfect for cupcakes or putting all over the top of your cake .
Here's a cake that I made using different size tips .
I really love the interplay of the smaller and the larger rosettes on this cake .
You could also add dots to the centers to create a totally different look .
The size of the rosette that you create , totally depends on the design that you're making and the size of your treat .
