Hello , my name is Clara and I'll be one of your guys on this video .
I hope you enjoyed this video and I wish you luck in your dancing pursuits .
My mother and father are from Puerto Rico and I was born in New York .
I started dancing in New York nightclubs when I was 23 .
My dance partner is my son Giovanni who is assisting me with this video .
And my name is Joe Baker .
I am the owner of the dance store and the producer of this video salsa is danced by stepping on three consecutive beats of music and then pausing for one beat .
This timing sequence repeats for the second part of the basin .
The step timing can be thought of as step , step , step , pause , step , step , step , pause using numbers .
The basic step is usually called out 123567 .
The pauses occur on counts five and eight .
Some dance teachers call out the step timing .
As quick , quick , slow , quick , quick , slow , each quick consumes one beat of music , each slow consumes two beats of music depending on how you hear and feel the music .
You may start the dance on any beat of the measure you wish .
In this video , we will start on the first beat of the measure .
This style is called salsa on one like the basic for mambo and for RBA , a full basic step pattern in the salsa can be thought of as having a forward basic which takes four beats of music and a backward basic which takes four beats of music .
So eight beats of music are required to complete one full basic step .
Many salsa dancers perform a tap step on the second half of the slow step .
The step timing could now be counted 123 .
Tap 567 .
Tap , the tap occurs on count four and on count eight .
The tap step is purely optional .
