Hello and welcome to the Harriet Miller art channel , giving you the techniques to produce amazing artwork .
Today , I've had several requests to draw this cute little koala .
So all that you're gonna need is some plain white paper .
You're gonna need a pencil and a razor and a black pen .
And remember , if you enjoy drawing animals , don't forget to download my free PDF of how to draw a horse galloping .
You can find the link just here , so let's get started .
So we're going to start off nice and simply with a circle .
So just towards the top of the page , just draw a simple circle and it doesn't have to be perfect .
You can draw around something if you find this too hard .
Just a circle like this .
OK , now we're gonna follow that with an oval shape just kind of tilted towards this direction .
Imagine a line going in this direction .
This is gonna be the koala's body again .
It doesn't have to be perfect .
No , a precise oval , either .
Remember , we're going to rub this out so it really doesn't matter if it doesn't look absolutely perfect .
Something like that .
Now we're going to draw two lines , one going vertically and one going horizontally to show the direction of the koala's face .
So they're both curved because the koala is looking to one side .
So one curve line like that and then the other line is going to be curved upwards .
Remember , if you need to pause this video at any moment , please do so you can catch up and take it in your own time .
Next , we're gonna be doing the ear .
So the shape a bit like that on one side , we're gonna do the same .
Amanda , try and get them roughly the same size .
OK , now for the arm .
It's gonna start about here , and we're just going to draw a line just kind of showing where the direction of the arm where that's going to go .
OK , so just a simple , simple line like that and the same for the bottom leg , something like that .
And that's first stage .
So the next stage we're gonna be adding the details still in pencil , and then we're gonna go over it and pen .
So we're gonna start off with the nose , so starting just where these two lines meet , we gonna draw an oval shape coming down like this .
And then it's got two little nostrils , one here and one here and then the eyes .
So one eye just on this line here , just like that and then the same on the other side , just like that .
And then we're gonna draw like a little mouth coming down just like that , OK , so the ears , we're gonna make them a little bit more furry .
So draw some fur coming out of them just like this .
Lots of , uh , coming round and the same on the other side .
Very hairy is that's going down like this all the way around .
And I forgot to add a little , um well , to shade in the eyes and leave a tiny little speck of light in the left top left hand corner .
So there we go .
This will become more clear when we actually do it , and so bring it round .
Now we've got to join up the head to the body .
So bring it around like this .
Can you see it starting to take shape , bring it round all the way around to the bottom , and then here we're gonna draw the foot just gripping onto we're gonna be drawing a tree , so just imagine that there's a tree coming up .
We're gonna draw it in a second there .
This is gripping on with its little toes .
Want to the I want to do that .
And these toes have quite large claws .
So let's add those two , OK ?
Just bring it around a little bit more , so it's got a bit more of a bottom .
Now we get more of a feel of what the choir is going to look like .
Excellent .
So now we're going to be doing the arm at the top , so this is gonna be reaching up , and koalas actually have two thumbs .
So on this side , I'm just gonna do poking around the back is one thumb and another thumb and do the fingers on this side on two and three and again , they've got these rather large claws .
Excellent .
Now I'm just gonna make this arm a little bit thinner just because it looks just slightly too big .
But that's the benefit of doing it in pencil .
Means we can just rub it out at any stage .
Is it gonna come down now ?
I don't know if you've ever held a koala .
I haven't , but they do look very cute .
OK , so bring the tummy comes out like this , and now we're gonna draw the tree , so it's got something to be clinging onto .
So the tree comes up like that comes down just like that all the way down and the same on the other side .
There we go .
And now I'm gonna go over this in pen .
So I've rubbed out all the pencil lines , and you may have noticed that I raised the knees slightly just to make it , um , more bended .
And I've used these kind of like , uh , furry lines to do the fur and given them quite furry ears .
And I'm just gonna add a little bit more fur to the tummy just very , very lightly in pen , just like this , just like that .
And also , I've done a few little dotted lines , Um , just around the eyes just to make it more realistic .
And the tree I just did lots of long lines with my pen , and I did them slightly darker in the areas of shadow just to give it a little bit more of a 3D look .
So they have your finished Koala .
I hope you've enjoyed it .
