Hey guys , welcome to Erica Cole Soul Kitchen today .
I'm going to be showing you how to make quick and easy Southern baked macaroni and cheese .
A recipe that has been passed down from my grandmother to my mom to me and now to you , be sure to like , subscribe and share this video and let's get to it .
First things first , you're gonna need one box of 16 ounce elbow macaroni noodles , a half a block of Velveeta cheese .
But I'm gonna use easy melt because it turns out the same and it's lower in cost .
You're gonna need one egg to hold your macaroni together .
I'm going to use three bags of cheese , craft , three cheese mix and two bags of sharp cheddar cheese .
You can use more cheese or use a different type .
It's up to you .
I'm gonna use 2% milk to mix it with my cheese for seasoning .
I'm only gonna use two tablespoons of butter , salt pepper and accent now that you have all your ingredients , you're gonna preheat the oven to 400 degrees according to my package .
I need to bring four quarts of water to a boil for my noodles I'm going to put my water over high heat just to speed up the boiling process .
Now , for your cheese block , you're gonna use half of the cheese block and cut it into medium squares .
This will allow for your cheese to melt faster .
Next , I'm gonna place my cubes in a medium sauce pan .
Mhm .
Now I'm gonna use about 2.5 to 3 cups of milk enough to cover the cheese block .
Yes .
Yes .
Now you're gonna continuously service over a medium heat to create a creamy cheese sauce .
Now that my water is at a rapid boil , I'm now gonna add in my 16 ounce box of elbow macaroni noodles .
Yeah .
Yes .
Yes .
Yes .
Continue to stir your cheese until it's about melted .
Uh , personally I like to melt my cheese some way so they can finish melting while it's in the oven .
Now that my cheese is about melted , I'm going to add a handful of sharp cheddar cheese just to add more flavor to it .
Now , I'm gonna set this cheese sauce to the side on another .
Now I'm gonna stir my noodles .
They've been cooking for about eight minutes .
So I believe now they are done .
So I'm gonna drain them shake for the excess water and make sure there's no water left up in there and I'm gonna return my news back to the pen .
Now I'm going to add my butter a little bit of egg or my one egg some soap and some pepper .
Now I'm gonna add my cheese sauce .
I was actually supposed to start in noodles in the seasonings first , but it's ok .
It's gonna turn out the same anyway .
I wanna mix this all together .
Yes .
Now I've added more pepper .
I'm gonna add accent to the mix and I'm gonna stir this all together .
Now I'm gonna add another handful of sharp cheddar cheese .
Also .
I just want to let you know that I'm stirring this over no heat .
So there's no heat .
I'm just stirring the cheese in and mixing everything all together .
Now , I'm gonna spray my pan with olive oil just to prevent from sticking .
Now that our pan is fully oiled , we're gonna take about half of our cheese mix and noodles and pour it into the pan .
Then you wanna set that aside , grab your craft triple cheddar cheese and you're just gonna layer until it's fully covered .
Now , you wanna grab craft sharp cheddar cheese and you're gonna do the same thing .
You're just gonna layer until it's fully covered .
Now I'm gonna take my spoon and I'm just gonna poke the cheese through the sauce just so we can get some cheese through , but we wanna still have the layer , we don't wanna mix it up .
We wanna have the layer there but still have the cheese going through .
So now you wanna take the rest of your cheese mix .
You wanna just pour it over top of the first layer that's going to the remainder of the mix .
You're just gonna spread this out evenly to cover the first layer .
So you're gonna spread this all the way over .
Now , you wanna take your triple cheddar bag again and do the same thing that you done the first time .
Make sure everything is covered on this layer .
Yes .
Now I'm gonna take the sharp cheddar cheese and I'm gonna do the same thing I did with the last layer making sure I cover all edges and inside of the top .
Now again , I'm gonna grab my spoon .
I'm just gonna poke this cheese through just so that I still have cheese on this layer , but it's going through and getting through uh to the layer before it and making it very , very cheesy .
Now I'm gonna take my other bag of sharp cheddar cheese and I'm gonna just top this whole thing with the sharp cheddar cheese and I'm gonna cover all edges and all sides making sure there's no openings .
Once it's fully covered , I like to Sprinkle some pepper on top .
This is completely optional .
It's just something I like to do at the end of making my macaroni and then I also like to use some olive oil and spray the top .
It just helps the cheese melt a lot better .
Yes .
Yes .
Now I want to place this whole delicious creamy macaroni cheese in the oven .
It just looks so good .
You're gonna place it in the oven for about 20 minutes .
Now that it's done , you're gonna let it sit for about 7 to 10 minutes .
Just so everything can get settled .
Looks so good .
Perfectly brown cheesy .
It just looks so delicious .
You can leave it in longer if you like .
That's up to you .
This is a quick and easy macaroni and cheese recipe .
It only takes 20 minutes to make an oven when you put it on 400 degrees .
Mhm .
Yes .
Yes .
