How To Make Waffle Cones _ Episode 1065

video content Image generated by Wilowrid

Hi guys , I'm Laurie Vitali .

On this episode of Laura in the kitchen , I want to show you how to make your very own waffle cones .

Now , I know and I don't expect you to make these on a daily basis .

But if you want a fun project to do with your kids or you have , you know , a free afternoon , I figure this is a really fun project and it's a really great treat once in a while .

But by no means do I make homemade waffle cones every time I want to eat ice cream ?

I'm not that crazy .

I mean , I'm crazy but not that crazy .

The ingredients you'll need to make them are very few and very basic .

You need some whole milk , eggs , flour , salt , sugar , melted butter and vanilla extract .

That is it .

Now , let's get started .

The very first thing I wanna do in a large bowl .

I'm going to add my eggs and my sugar and I'm just gonna whisk these by hand for just a couple of minutes or until this mixture becomes a little frothy and a little more pale in color .

But don't bring out any heavy machinery because you're not looking for this , a double in size or anything .

You're really just looking to kind of add a little bit of air into the eggs .

Perfect .

Now , I can add the rest of the white ingredients .

So we got the milk , the melted butter and a good splash of vanilla extract .

This is my homemade vanilla extract and sometimes which is a tip I wanna give you uh you might wanna shake your vanilla every time you use it because all the seeds sink to the bottom because in homemade vanilla extract , you get lots and lots of vanilla beans .

Ok ?

Good enough .

Add the dry ingredients , which is just the salt and the flour and you just wanna whisk this just long enough for everything to kind of come together .

And at this point , it'll look really , really loose and thin .

But now the important part is you can see at this point we're done whisking .

You can see how thin it is .

Now , at this point , what I'm going to do is I'm going to set this aside and let it rest for five minutes .

And in the meantime , I'm gonna get my waffle maker out my waffle cone maker and I'm gonna get that preheated .

I know all good questions about whether or not you can make this recipe without a waffle cone maker .

And you can um , there's lots of great tutorials online .

I'm sure showing you how to do it with a skillet but home girl can own up to when things don't work .

And I have tried to make this on the stovetop in a non stick skill and they just don't work for me .

They don't crisp up at all .

They still taste delicious , but they just don't crisp up .

So I just found that it's better to just throw in the towel of doing it any other way than using a waffle cone maker because like I said , I failed , I have failed many , many attempts .

So I'm gonna go get that and I'm gonna get it preheated .

All right .

So I've got all my tools ready .

Now , I've got my waffle cone maker and your waffle cone maker should come .

It should come with this guy as well .

This is sort of that you can form the actual waffle cone .

So that , that's ready to go .

I have a wire rack here and I also have a plate with a clean kitchen towel and also very important .

A kitchen timer .

I'm using my phone because it's the only thing I can bring right here close to me because this is what's really important .

And I want you to know this so that you don't get disappointed when you're making this recipe .

It's really difficult to get really good crunchy waffle cones .

I can't tell you how many times I have made them and I have tasted delicious , but they haven't gotten really crunchy .

They've kind of remained soft .

So I have found that if you use this particular , this is just a chef's choice um , waffle cone maker .

Um If you put it on setting number four and you put your waffle cone in there and you let them cook for a minute and 40 seconds , they come out perfect and they stay nice and crispy .

However , this is a , uh this is something you wanna eat right away because the longer they sit , especially in a humid climate , they will soften .

So if you leave these out overnight , they're gonna soften .

So make these and eat them at the scene of the crime .

Never leave this area basically .

So this is ready to go .

You'll need a little less than a quarter cup .

You see how it's , it's thickened up really nicely .

You'll need a little less than a quarter cup of batter for each one .

About three tablespoons or .

So put that right in the center and don't worry if the first few come out , wonky put the lid on and then instantly I start my stop wash and I'm gonna let that go for a minute and 40 seconds .

I'm going to do some of these and then I'm going to show you how to form them how they look when they're cooled .

All that fun stuff .

All right , if it looks a little bit wonky on one side , do not panic .

It does not matter .

You take whatever isn't the prettiest side .

Now , this , you have to work quickly .

You take your cone shaper guy , you point it like that not all the way to the bottom because you need to be able to seal the ends just like that of your ice cream cone .

And this is when I'm trying to show you this .

So you kind of just roll and you press it against that plate and then you just kind of press it like that to really just seal that seam because you wanna make sure that the seam is sealed completely so that it doesn't break apart .

Then you let that cool for several seconds on your cone maker and then you just put it on a rack and this is what they look like .

I mean , that is what it looks like , but how ridiculous that I didn't feel it was something I made some homemade Sherbert kind of like my take on a Rainbow Sherbert , but using fruit instead of food coloring .

So it is like the perfect summertime tree for just me because that's how I roll .

Mhm I'll be here for a while .

I hope that you found this fun , helpful , whatever you wanna call it , see you slip out your waffle cone little shaper and you're done .

I am gonna continue to make the rest of my waffle cones .

If you have some spare time this weekend , get in the kitchen , make some awesome homemade waffle cones to serve your awesome ice cream in and you're gonna have the best time with your family doing it .

I hope you've enjoyed spending time with me .
