We're tackling the Great American Breakfast , and these are our waffles .
We're gonna serve them with fresh Berries , cream and syrup .
And better than that , we're gonna show you how to make them .
If you haven't got a waffle line , there's three easy SAGES to making our waffle batter .
We need the dry ingredients , the kind of the wet ingredients , and then to make them really light and fluffy egg white cool .
Fold in at the end to start with the dry stuff we've got flour , baking powder and salt .
Now these are weighed out in grammes , so they're very , very precise .
Obviously cups more tradition .
So in America , you can do exactly that as well .
Just convert them really easy conversions for dry ingredients , sugar as well .
And then , if you can just mix that up with a spoon , Sure , and that's it .
Easy as that .
Push that to one side and look at out set , OK , eggs crack on the side .
We want the whites in that bowl and the yolks over .
Yeah , lovely .
Is this a good time to talk about why we think waffles are American ?
Yes .
Why do you think a waffle is American funny ?
you should mention that .
Actually , er Ben cos I was doing some research just before we started filming this .
And waffles aren't American .
Of course they're not .
They're European .
Belgium .
So two things we need to whisk together .
If you can just do our egg whites , I can't help but notice it seems a lot bigger in America .
If we want peaks into here and into our egg yolks , we're gonna add our milk , plus the very simple flavour of vanilla extract .
OK , so just about a teaspoon of that .
Oh , have you not got a machine that could do this ?
No .
Ah , I'm gonna put our egg yolks , milk and vanilla extract into all our dry ingredients and whisk that together until we've got quite a thick batter .
I'm happy with that cook .
Perfect .
Perfect .
So this can all go into our batter and then fold it in really gently .
It's all that air that makes these light and fluffy along with the baking powder .
So there we go .
The batter is done to cook them .
We need to take a stick of butter and just rub it over our waffle line .
This will stop them from sticking .
So that sounds like an American breakfast to me .
So we just fill them up so they're just full and then clamp it down and they need about two or three minutes .
Meanwhile , we can do exactly the same over this side , and then we'll do round ones here , So waffles can , of course , be of any shape and size you do .
Square ones should do round ones rectangular ones , while we wait for those to cook .
Jamie , can you whip us up some cream ?
So this is double cream or heavy whipping cream .
If you can just whip that up to , we've got soft peaks and I'm gonna prep some of our Berries , so stop moving stuff around .
I need this ball of Berries , right cream .
Done .
Also , if you can just put it into there , a little bit of syrup over there in the cream .
Well , I think we'll mix in later on .
So just the final stages .
Now , as we plate up some of our square ones , nice and golden , the butter and the pan will help with that and then plenty of fresh Berries .
So we've got blueberries and literally look at this scatter .
Oh , nothing more than that .
Amazing .
And if you get them on the grill , even better , a few for us is .
What about those ones ?
That is , the more fruit the better .
Gonna look good .
It's gonna taste great .
Now , this is our take on the Great American Breakfast of Waffles .
But did we get it right ?
We need you to tell us .
What else would you put on this topping ?
We've gone for Berries and cream with a little bit of syrup , but we wanna hear yours sorted .
I don't know how to go in with this .
Ben .
Do I go hands in hot ?
Or do I get cutlery ?
Your choice .
But don't forget the cream and the syrup .
I'm gonna go in cutlery , then .
Oh , that is really good .
I love maple syrup .
We don't have maple syrup enough in the UK .
What about the ones without the waffle line ?
Just as good on flavour , right ?
It's slightly less crispy on the outside , Just as fluffy on the inside .
I love that
