My name is Sam Slaughter the food and drink editor here at the manual .
And today we are here to teach you how to cook a steak in the oven .
Now , before you lose your heads , we know it's not the ideal way to cook a steak , but it does make a delicious steak .
Sometimes you don't have access to a grill .
Here's what you gotta do to cook a steak in the oven .
You need a couple of things .
Obviously , a steak .
We've gone with a rib eye .
It's nice and thick , it'll cook up really nicely .
The other thing you need is a cast iron pan .
It'll be what you're using to cook both on the stovetop and in the oven to start set your oven to 450 degrees and put the cast iron pan in the oven while that is coming up to temperature , you're gonna want to get your steak ready .
So you take some olive oil , brush both sides a little bit of salt and pepper and that's all you need to do .
Once the pan in the oven come to temperature , take the pan out and set it on a burner .
Over medium heat sear one side of the steak for two minutes , then flip and top with some chopped garlic next , you'll place the pan back in the oven for six minutes .
When the time's up , pull the pan out and put it back on the stovetop .
This time .
Over low heat , flip the steak again and top with butter , tilt the pan so that you can continuously coat the steak with the now melted butter and garlic for two or three minutes .
Depending on how done you want your steak .
When you're cooking your steak , you're going to want a meat thermometer handy so that you can check the temperature of your steak .
If you're looking for rare , you're going to want 125 F .
Medium , rare would be 1 35 medium , would be 1 45 medium .
Well , is 1 50 well done is 160 F .
When the desired temperature is reached , put the steak on a plate and allow it to rest for about five minutes and voila , you have a perfectly cooked and perfectly delicious steak that was not made on a grill , but on your stove and in your oven .
Mhm .
